Is FMS a relapsing disease?

I ask because I find my symptoms go through phases - I can feel good for a while and then suddenly I find the FM is 'back' but worse than before I started to feel good. If you know what I mean...

I'm not sure , but I do think it's very variable and unpredictable.

In my case much depends on what else is happening in life, and the more stressed I am the worse it gets.

Hello wheelz, yes this is the case with fibro. You can have good days or spells. But if you over do things or are under a lot of stress, get a virus or suchlike then it can knock you out and lay you low.

With pain feaing much worse. These spells are known as flares and you need to rest when they happen and not push youself too hard.

The whole thing with fibro is Plan, priorities and pace yourself. What can`t be done for a while can`t be done.It will always be there another day.

If this is happening to you now I wish you better soon.

You can get 'flare ups' with FMS, these are times when you symptons are at their worst, sometimes a flare up will only a last a few days other times it can last for months.

hmm, thank you all. I find that I would get a few really good months with very little pain and then overnight, it comes and bites me on the butt! :-)

I worked in a stroke unit as a nurse when I noticed that I had pain

both my hips as it is very heavy work went to the doc and he said

nothing wrong with your hips.

So a change of job was called for I now work in a prison as a nurse

not so heavy. One day I was walking my dog and I had this very bad

pain in my hip I thought I would never get home.

This time I went to a speciliast and he said I had fibro, that was

two years ago and it is now every where, some days are better than

others, why does it get worse, God alone knows, the mornings are

always bad always stiff, but some days the pain is better than other

days.

So how can you go from having a pain in the hip to this pain all over

some times I think it is the medication that makes me worse, but I know

its not its just how fibro is will it get worse who knows.

All we can do is to try and stay positive, try and keep happy, and

believe that this is as bad as it gets. but thats not alway easy is it

but there are lots worse off than we are

Stay well and try and be positive for the future

Love and Hugs to you all

Vivien, if everything else has been ruled out thoroughly, then you might want to look up myofascial pain and/or get assessed for this by someone properly trained.

Fibro is an all over condition - you shouldn't get it diagnosed unless the symptoms are widespread. But myofascial pain is very very common alongside Fibro and is a major cause of localised or predictable pain in people with Fibro.

You may also want to look up whether you could be hypermobile - hypermobility is considered a risk factor for developing Fibro, it often affects the hips and pelvis (especially in women) and it can also cause myofascial pain.

Thank you very interesting
