I started my journey to loose weight and is damn hard, In order to loose weight I had to reduce my dosage of treatment because apparently the medications I take make me gain weight. The pain is so intense that at this point I am numb to all the pain in the world 😔, is difficult but is working for me. Beginning of December last year I weight 105kg and now I am at 88 kg and I still have to lose another 10kg in order to get back on track. In the meantime I have found that I am gluten intolerant and lactose intolerant so I’m trying not to go crazy about it Not cheap at all.
My question for you guys is if anyone is dealing with this and what tricks and tips you have to share with others.
Thank you
Alina

Well done to you. I too have had a journey of weight loss and taking my self of drugs which affect weight and side effects. Like you I am still trying to lose more weight to reach my goals. The changes for me have been the withdrawal of drugs , my mindset , looked at diet/food that affect fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis . Researching others ways to support my pain by using a Ten machine. Got my GP to put me forward to the pain clinic which I found for me was such a great support.
Started chair exercises to ease pain. Stretching exercises throughout the day which support pain levels.
Use magnesium spray into my muscles.
Eat lots of vegetables and some fruits .
I feel sure you may have already done your homework to your wellbeing of losing weight. It's such a brave thing losing weight with long term illness/pain.
My walking distance is affected by osteoarthritis in the knees and therefore I had to look at other ways to exercise. Which does ease my pain after a bit.
I asked my GP for free support from a dietitian video chat to help me understand my mistakes .
I also registered for talking therapist on there wedsite which has also supported me on my emotions status at times because my journey is a long one.
Talking to people who listen is key. Plus there no judgement from these teams. This will keep your attitude to your struggling journey as positive outlook and giving your body what help and support it needs. It's not easy listening to your body needs as you know a lot of hard work losing weight and living with pain.
It's such a bigger picture its a lifestyle change. Good luck 👍 big 🫂 hug. And keep going . Xxx
Also just wanted to say well done and encourage you to keep going. December couldn’t have been the easiest time to start on a weight loss journey, throw in dealing with gluten and lactose intolerance and you’ve done incredibly well so far.
I too am struggling to lose weight. Being unable to exercise adds to the problem. Im dairy and fructose intoletant. Being unable to eat most fruits and staying away from sugar content I had a battle with sweet cravings every so often. Ive found pitted dates solved that problem. They are very good for you, plus plenty of fibre. Just sweet enough to keep me away from cravings. Dont know if thats any help to others, but its worth a try.n
Hello Alice, great progress. It has taken 3 years for me to lose weight. I have only lost 10kg , I’m now 75kg it’s been up and down, having to slow down due to pain flares and exhaustion. I am 53 they tell you your metabolism slows after menopause but this isn’t true. What is true is that we have far less muscle,as muscle mass is highest at age 30. So we have to build muscle. The fitness gurus say the easiest way is to build largest so everything below the waist.
Start by moving legs , can be sat. Slowly build on this, doesn’t matter what exercise as long as it suits you. Then to start squats , the best way to build bottom, use a chair to lean on. Start slowly, you will soon improve, the aim is to b able to squat to the floor and up in succession. Over time your metabolism will increase. 3 minute bursts of exercise, more than once a day eventually. But be aware it takes a long time but just keep at it and manage your pain, be good to yourself, drink lots of water, it helps you lose weight. I eat nuts, eggs and cheese to get my protein. As you want to lose fat not muscle each day.
I’ve managed to keep the weight off. I am aware I have to move my legs as often as possible. I just wave them around rather than walking , being Sat helps atm because I have spinal stenosis, my lumbar is excruciating. Good luck. Pinterest and instagram have lots of quick muscle building exercises which are inventive and effective.,stretching is great too, so floor yoga and floor weights. You will do it if you consider how much easier mobility will be when lighter, lowering your chances of exhaustion. Good luck! X
Quick well done you 👍. A little tip only those with fibro would understand is when walking I go on grass as much as possible as even with decent foot wear the pounding on pavements limits my walking. Surprising how much further I get on grass. Be interested to no what meds you have come off as convinced mine have made me balloon 👎.
I decided together with my doctor to decrease the dosage of my daily medication, because I couldn’t get my weight under control, I am on 50mg sertraline and 50mg pregabalin daily, I used to be on 150mg each daily and some steroids treatments, is not easy because the pain is a killer but I try to manage and keep my self busy to take my mind off the situation. I have good days and bad days. Still learning everyday how to do it but is not situation where “ one size fits all “, every person is different. I suffer from Fibromyalgia, lower back disc hernia and arthritis, De Quervain's tenosynovitis on both wrist, right shoulder bursitis, vertigo, and few more health problems and I am only 45 years old. Life has been very “generous” to me, not in a good way. 😔
I don't have any magic tips to give you re weight loss but wanted to congratulate you on how well you're doing - amazing amount of weight lost! Well done for sticking with it despite all the pain. I've been told I'm pre diabetic and need to lose weight but that means cutting down/out on things like a glass of wine or chocolate and when I'm feeling bad physically I want to "console" myself with all the wrong things! Need to pull my socks up! You're doing amazing!
Have a look at Inulin. It's a pre-biotic and sweet yet hardly any sugar. It's also very good at reducing internal fat stored around your organs.
I know it's only correlation and not evidence of 'cause', but having weaned myself off all painkillers except codeine and losing loads of weight, I put most of it back on again when I had to re-start taking Duloxetine.
Well done, so far, and good luck. Be gentle on yourself, too.
