Hello there, I can empathize as with a condition /condition s and your body wonβt go everything gets hard, glad uve help with the garden , I too have had too have some help which I find hard as was my passion (still is really) so hard too give you the right advice on excercise I used too swim as used a lot of muscles , some do aqua classes but not too the extreme, I used too have an excercise bike I gave it away , now Iβm wishing I hadnβt as I spend a lot time at home it would have come in handy in moderation, I know they say eat fruit veg etc every day and frozen stuff does come in handy if us Fibro s stuck at home as back up. Iβm sending some kind wishes as we do get it here xx
The key to weightloss is diet, exercise can come later. I think it is better to loose some weight first and then gradually build in exercise, slowly. The heavier you are the more risky exercise is, it puts a lot of strain on your joints. It's very common to get knee injuries in this situation.
I also think people have a tendancy to throw themselves into exercise because they're essentially avoiding the thing they dread the most, which is eating less. Eating less, I think, is harder than exercising more. Its not like you can just avoid all food, you still have to eat. Reducing calories is tedious, complex and continuously frustrating.
I'm a very healthy weight and I do a lot of exercise, more than 20 hours a week with 10 of those hours being intense. Despite this I have been trying to loose the same half a stone for a decade. It didn't matter what I did it would not go, until 6 months ago.
I'm a very highly strung person and I have a plethora of chronic pain conditions and insomnia. Probably because of this I developed prediabeties, despite being about 8 stone. So I started following a protocol, largely publized by The Glucose Godess, an annoyingly thin woman. This diet aims to stop your glucose spikes. This is good for blood sugar but also for weight loss.
The main gist of it is that you change the order you eat your food in to reduce the delivery of sugars to your body primarily by eating fibre first, fats and proteins second and carbs last. In my case I didn't have to reduce my calorie intake, just the order. So if you go out for food, order a salad starter or eat some nuts before you go out etc.
I would start there and try and be patient, it takes time but it's sustainable. When you start to loose weight then think about exercise bc that will up your metabolism which will further aid weightloss.
My best friend is morbidly obese, she also has prediabeties, she needs to loose about 10 stone. Despite our many differences we share the same frustration of not being in control of our weight regardless of how different we look. It's tough, try not to be too hard on yourself!
'8 stone?? Oh how I wish,
Good morning Cat00, Get ready It's another long one,,
Please take my post with my humour and kindness I have no wish to cause any stresses please tell me If you feel offended or upset I truly have no purpose to upset anyone,
I think we should have some liposuction, they can scootch mine out then put it in you,
I havn't been 8 stone since I was 10! Have you always been trim?
I was a bus driver for many years and decided I must do something before it was taken out of my hands, I was a child that was told think of all the starving children in Africa and You wont get a pudding if you don't eat all your dinner!!!
The bus station was right next to the gym so it seemed a good idea π
I threw myself into it because I enjoyed it plus my company had a deal with the Gym so it was half price for a year,I got down from 20 stone to 9st 12!!! woooo hoooo,
I felt great and because of the weight lose I had to go SHOPPINGππ!
I must admit I looked and felt great and started to love myself,(Hard when you don't get praise when younger) Hubby as always was a dream and showed support at every chance,
He has been and is, a very slim man and had and still is an extreme sweet tooth and goes to bed with a bag or two of sweeties!! He has a drawer full in his room, otherwise I'll demolish the lot,
I realise a lot of people find it hard if not impossible to put weight on or off,
I started feeling sooo very tired and places where I didn't know I had places started to hurt, We had a holiday in beautiful Scotland and was looking forward to the scenery and walks etc, Had the love of food when your next to the sea and breathe fresh air,
GLORIOUS,
Still went to the gym but was finding the pain unbearable started looking at food differently and was hungry when I shouldn't have been π π , No matter what I was find it really hard to cope too, To cut a longer story still long I still was unable to keep control of my weight ,
Blood tests revealed I had hypo Thyroidsm, Then had a back injury which put me out of action for almost a year, Before I knew it I was huge weighing at a π© weight of 17st devastating,
After trying everything even the π© pill, If you ate any fat it would come off,or out, So I had a lot of coming out, ( sorry if anyone is getting dinner ready,)
I had the Gastric band done, That was a waste of my hard earned money and the pain and time I can't get back βΉοΈ,
I had a hiatus hernia repaired, The surgeon said it was as big as his fist and didn't know if he could repair it?? π€¨,
I KNOW I AM NEARLY THERE! π€«π€«
Then the dreaded Fibro kicked in, Although we thought it was something else, THEN on top of that I started the menopause,So a bit of all and everything of all of these ailments and other symtoms and chronic depression and anxiety I'm now almost bed bound If not in the power chairπ I'm still here, though so must have something else worth while to contrlbute??
I weigh more than before the band because of the pain with stomach, I could only manage liquids pureed or anything that could melt in the mouth still to today because I only have two teeth at the bottom and dentures on top,So still can't chew properly Waiting for surgery,
I now have more nice pj's then clothes and got some that at a glance you wouldn't know were pj's It's ll I can stand to have on me and most of the time is exhausting to get dressed even with hubby's help,
I hope you find both of your solutions soon with any help or advice from anybody and everybody
Take care
DebsβΉοΈβΉοΈβΉοΈ gentle (((((Hugs)))))
I'm 5"2' so 8 stone isn't bad, I have a lot of muscle so in reality I'm heavier for my height than normal. My best friend is about 20 stone but our insulin is just as dysfunctional! I was an anorexic but that's was from ill health so wasn't considered anorexia nervosa, then after a few years on Pregablin, Gabapentin Morphine etc I became a bit overweight and now I'm here. Spent 10 years trying to get my weight back down.
I've had chronic migraines since I was a child, fibro, IBS, Bladder Pain Syndrome, Osteopenia, Raynauds, Hypermobility, GAD, ADHD the list goes on. I've never experienced life without pain so I know how that is. I expect menopause soon so that'll be a joy I'm sure!!
Also 5'2 I look like I've been squashed from above and then unzipped from the sides so It all just blehhh The thing is I'm back on smushed up food until I can chew again, waiting still for dental surgery
βΉοΈπ¦·βΉοΈπ¦· only 2 teeth on the bottom βΉοΈ
Wow thank you... Great advice.. I will definitely give it a try... Very best wishes π€
If you're on instagram Glucose Godess is there or she's written loads of books, you can buy them 2nd hand online for next to nothing.I did all sorts of dieting, particularly 5:2 fasting etc nothing worked before now. It needs to be simple, dieting is hard enough but we're in constant pain too with crap sleep and I always knew I couldn't do calorie counting etc.
Also another good tip is when you start exercising it might be better to start with weights rather than cardio bc cardio can make you really hungry later in the day, especially for women apparently...this is true for me but everyone is different so it would a good idea to try an observe how you are.
Right now, however, better to channel any energy you have to looking at your diet.
In my opinion Slimming World is the way to go as you can eat quantity (of the right foods ofcourse). I have a big appetite but found the healthy eating plan satisfies. I have a sweet tooth so any cutting down is a challenge but trust me if I can do it anyone can! Good luck...keep us posted
I totally understand how you feel. However I too was in the Situation with my weight and pain with fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis in my knees. A very unkind consultant upset me with his attitude about my weight which brought me to tears . Therefore I decided to take a look at myself and what I could do.
I research my medication for side effects and took myself of painkillers which had increased my weight and started to use other ways to help my pain.
I use a tens machine for pain and heated oils on my painful muscles. Started to do sit down exercises on a chair πΊ and watch YouTube for better results .
I brought a low sitdown bike and started using that every other day slowly got stronger to do more.
My muscles and my body were screaming but the more I moved the pain did ease off after a while.
I cut down my portion sizes and watched what I was eating.
Since January I have lost 3stone
from doing these things moving does hurt however you must keep moving slowly π to keep the muscles strong.
See your GP and ask his help to attend any courses on losing weight and ask support for a dietitian to help you understanding your food options.
Share with your GP you need to know how to support your health and your illness and the support out there. Ask your GP about the pain clinic they will also help you understanding how to overcome some of your pain levels and there courses are done through live chat at home. There maybe a waiting list but go on it.
Go on line and refer yourself to healthy minds team who can support you with your mindset they are very good . I never thought I would lose weight like I have . I feel better for taking less drugs my overall health is improving . Of course I have setbacks but I keep pushing to get part of the old me back. I use two walking stick so that isn't an option to go walking very far .
My sitdown bike give me exercises I can do slowly and I love it. I pop some music on and off I go. I sometimes can't use my bike because of pain all over my body so I do my chair exercises.
It's important for you to not beat yourself up about weight . Your such a brave person to ask for help ..
Lifestyle changes will improve your mindset and your health.
Write down a list of options you are going to review and changes you will continue with whatever. You will get setbacks but that's doesn't matter keep pushing because you are worth it. Your still young to make these changes work for you . Good luck π big hugs.
you have already started your journey by reaching out for help . Xxx take care
You'll be surprised at how many of us Fibroites have a problem with our diets,
(I think I posted to the wrong bit and don't have the energy to do another one. It's on Cat00
My reply is for who ever
It's a difficult task, one complicated by various medications I fear
I have tried various approaches but the one i found most beneficial was "eat like your great grandmother ". That implies an eating plan that you can live with for the rest of your life. It means no processed foods or drinks, no artificial additives or preservatives. It probably means a relatively high fat diet and very low carbohydrate food intake ( so out goes sugar, fruit juices, alcohol, pasta, bread, biscuits, Sweets etc). We arevall literally addicted to sugar, in its various forms. π
I find intermittent fasting very easy and beneficial too... something that has become routine for me now.... but easier with low carbs and higher fat.
At the end of the day , one has to educate oneself and find what works for you. We are all unique.

Hopefully the above may help π
I am diabetic and the diabetes nurse said don't eat anything after 6pm, drink only water after that time. Fast for at least 12 hours (she gave me 6pm as she said it's easier as we are asleep for the best part of it! Watch carbs and come back in 6 months. Well I am 4 stone lighter without really noticing the fasting. I adjust it if I need to eat later then I have breakfast later the next day. Plenty on the internet about intermittent fasting but I would say check with your GP first that it's ok to try for you.
