Hi, I got diagnosed with fibro in November 2021 then I started getting the occasional pain in my side which I just put down to fibro but February 2023 I had been in that much pain on the one night and didn't seem to be able to keep anything down that I ended up in A&E the next morning. I ended up in hospital for about a week and after tests I got diagnosed with gallstones and as it turned out I had one stuck in the tube which was why I had been in so much pain. They managed to get it out but I was told that I need to have my gallbladder removed so I didn't have this happen again but I was told I need to lose some weight. I changed my diet and am very careful about eating food that is greasy (only occasionally having something from the chippy but getting as much grease out as I can as very rare I have chips usually scallops). I really want to lose weight and I went to see a GP today to see if he had any advice but was asked if I had tried any medication before to help which I haven't so was saying about 2 different things and then said but I'm not sure if you can try them due to having gallstone and maybe it was better if I had the operation first to have my gallstones removed then come back and we can talk about you losing weight. So he was of no help as I have to lose some weight to have the operation, I'm still waiting to be given a date for my operation.
I want to lose some weight so I can chase about my operation and I was just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and can give me some advice on which diet is the best for someone with fibro and gallstones, along with what exercises are good for me to try as well. Any advice is welcome.

it’s all about the fat you eat, you need to either go fat free or as little as possible, so no oil, butter or high fat content food like cheese , swap to oven chips if you want them but not from the chippy, and don’t fry food, an air fryer is better , dairy products should be kept to a minimum too, you’ll soon lose weight if you stick to low fat.
slimming world is very low fat you could try that I’ve lost 2 stone 6lb….. I had my gallbladder out last sept and it’s been great. Recovery went well but you have to get up and about quickly to speed up recovery ❤️🩹 and to get home - I was in at 7:00 am discharged at 2:30 pm! Same day
As the other replies have said you need to go on an ultra low fat diet to reduce any flare-ups. Weight watchers, Slimming World, Noom etc are all good weight loss methods and can be adapted to a very low fat diet.
I had my gall bladder removed about 10 years ago and have subsequently had two ERCP procedures to remove gall stones from the bile duct. I too struggle to lose/keep weight off so I keep to a low fat diet to help weight loss and reduce the pain of any flare-ups.
Hi can I ask how u hot on with ERCP? Ive got a stone stuck in my bile duct which is affecting my liver. Up until now I've refused to av it done. I'm absolutely petrified of Avin a tube down my throat, even with sedation. I'd appreciate any help you might have. Thanks 😊
I wouldn't be scared of having it done again. The surgeon wants to keep you heavily sedated so you remain still and relaxed during the procedure.
Usually the procedure is done in the x-ray/MRI department. In my case at North Devon Hospital, you walk into the room and lie on your front on the bed. They then put a mouth guard in your mouth to hold your jaw open. At this point they give the sedation and you won't be aware of anything until you wake up in the recovery area.
You may have a bit of a sore throat after the procedure & they usually pump a bit of air into your tummy to make it easier for them. The recovery is very quick, apart from being a bit burpy for a day or two, you should be absolutely fine.
Most surgeons do a lot of these procedures so they are confident and experienced. The benefits of having it done in my experience vastly out weigh any concerns I have about having it done again. Please don't worry about having it done - it is well worth it!
Also reduce your carbs, these include Sugars, Cakes, Sweets, biscuits,Bread, alcohol, use sugar free drinks also reduce your spuds. Use lean and preferably white meat and fish with salads. Up your exercise as well.
The sooner you can get rid of the weight, the sooner you can have the pesky gallbladder removed.
This is what I did to lose weight before my gallbladder surgery.
