Hi. This is my first time here. š¤My GP send me for an annual blood test.
My liver function test results are worrying me. My ALT level is 83. And my AST is 57.
Is this really bad? I have no idea. I had a message to book a telephone appointment to discuss the results. I couldn't get one for earlier than 3 weeks. Help! š®š«£

We can't give medical advice but can share our own experiences.
I have fluctuating liver results and have to give up stimulants like Tea,coffee and alcohol ,you could try that while you wait. When you get your call ask what action you can take long term.
Try not to worry and get the facts as soon as you can.

If it was really serious they would have got you in to see a Dr straight away. When my blood test results came back abnormal I was given an appointment within 2 days. Itās not worth worrying about as that would not help you. My motto is (Worry is like a rocking chair, you go back and forth and get nowhere). I hope this helps š
Have you had your thyroid checked? Often abnormal liver test results like these are common in those of us with hypothyroidism.

Thank you klr31 , I have not heard this but can say that my liver tests were all very elevated after having surgery in 94. I had hypothyroidism with goiters which 11yrs later turned into cancer resulting in a complete thyroidectomy. Oh I just thought of something else. Sjƶgren's Syndrome is something that is common with fibromyalgia. I was just tested for this havenāt received the results yet but remember this can effect kidney function levels which mine were low (receiving chronic renal disease stage 2 on my list of diagnosis) but has come back up to 76 (above 60 is normal). This could be a factor in the kidney levels being off(?) xSunnysuex . I havenāt fully researched Sjƶgren's yet because of feeling like a hypochondriac especially in the last 2yrs with these weird symptoms that have come above and beyond the normal fibro pain.
So you're on thyroxine now? If you have Hashimoto's then you are at risk of getting another autoimmune disease, so Sjogren's may be a possibility.

Hi Karen, thank you. I was diagnosed with Hashimotoās in 2005 following thyroid cancer. I have been on thyroxine since 93 for hypothyroidism with goiters. In the last 9 months has been decreased from 200mcg to 100mcg not sure why my body changed needing to adjust the dose when it had been stable at 200mcg since 2005? The test for Sjogren's syndrome came back negative so am back at square one. š¤·š¼āāļø
We do tend to need a little less thyroxine as we get older. I've been on less since menopause. Your abnormal liver function tests might just be because you have thyroid issues, as a couple of mine are often slightly higher.

I went through menopause early in life at age 41 my doctor wrote āIām surprisedā on my lab report. It seemed to be when I passed 62 that the mail order pharmacist and doctors started reacting differently regarding my medications that I had been on for decades. š¤·š¼āāļøI guess that was the turning point of āgetting olderā.
I find doctors are often surprised at their patients!šMaybe your blood test results were changing. Do you get them to keep an eye on them yourself?

My menstrual cycles had stopped by then. When I was 39 I had gone 2 months without a menstrual cycle so was thinking that I was pregnant. The home pregnancy test came back negative. My identical twin sister (who didnāt go through a nasty divorce) went through menopause 10yrs later. So I contributed that the stress brought on early menopause. Yes I got a copy of the lab report. Yes doctors do learn some surprising things from their patients. š
