very high GGT levels anyone?

I have consistantly high GGT levels in my blood tests over several months. The dr sent me for a liver scan which was clear then nothing more was said about it, except for asking me how much I drank! With all my painkillers more than the occasional glass is a distant dream !! I am concerned about it because I dont know if this is common with fibro or not. So is any one else in the same boat?

Lots of different medications can cause a raise in GGT levels, especially NSAID's and drugs to lower cholesterol so it could be your meds that are causing it.

It's not something I've had, but I do have to have regular blood tests to check my liver because I take statins ( or at least I'm supposed to ).

If you're at all concerned go back to your GP and ask for further info .

Hey I had an episode in Feb 2010, where I was taken to hospital with pain in upper right adomin and during bloods tests, my bloods where deranged bloods 500 and something. I was kept in for a couple of days, as I was also dehydrated.

They also kept asking if I drank, like you I do not because of all the meds.

On discharge, I actually felt like they were implying, I had a drink problem.

The more I said I did not drink ,the more the eye brows were raised.

I was bascially discharge being told, do not drink or you will be back here. I was ordered to have blood test which fell to 340 and then to 40.

My GP is very good and I explained this all to her and she said I know you don't drink, but binge drinking could have been the cause.

She then said could be the antiviral medicine I take for reocurring shingles. I stop these, two days later I had shingles.

At present still taking all meds and bloods are back to normal. I am waiting to see the medical team at hospital to investigate reocurring shingles, so will question this.

So I hope I get some answers soon, I would agree with Helen if you are concerned speak with your GP for clarification.

It is so hard when what is wrong, is not explained. Take care hope all works out.

HELLO I had the same thing had all tests was told not to drink any more THEY DID NOT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF ME WHEN I TOLD THEM I DONT DRINK AFTER MORE TESTS THEY DID SAY THAT IT WAS DOWN TO ALL THE MEDS THAT I HAVE TO TAKE HOPE U R ALL O.K LOTS OF LOVE BETH2 X

I have had same thing and after undergoing every test available including liver MRI and asking them if they would like to breathalise me, they finally admitted it could be NSAIDS. I stopped them and it has never happened again.

Hi, I m new here, but an active member of the atrial fibrillation and diabetes forums. My gamma gt was up to 235 last week, alarmingly. I have non alcoholic fatty liver disease but that result was a shock. Gp only wants a phone chat in ten days. I don't know what it means. Have you talked to your gp mightofguessed?
