I have only been diagnoised with fibro for about 2 years, quite frankly I am pretty much been "left" to get on with it ! I have a question . Do you have cramp ? I have it very severly at night only behind the left knee , and in both feet x I do have quinine sulphate on prescription , any ideas ? Its awful as it wakes me up in the night ? ( my sleep is only about 2-3 hours ) many thanks and gentle hugs x

Hi, magnesium oil, spray or lotion helps mine, rub a good amount in where your muscles are tight and cramping. Epsom salts in your bath if you can have one as hot as you can stand it. Doesn't help everyone but always worth a try.

Ps. mag may sting on first application but will only last a few minutes 😊

I was having bad cramps in my feet, occasionally calves and especially hands. I started taking magnesium tablets as I had heard thry helped with muscle spasms and realised about 6 weeks after starting them that I hadn't had any cramps. Quite a few people have also had good results with magnesium spray.A friend used to have terrible cramps, so bad that twice she passed out with the pain. She was diagnosed with a bowel problem and told to go gluten free and within weeks her cramps stopped and haven't returned 5 years later.

I do hope you find something to ease it as it definitely interfere with sleep.x

I use magnesium spray and take magnesium supplements and the cramps have definitely died down

Hi, I'm currently having investigations done because in September I had leg cramp in one leg from the knee downwards for 3 entire weeks. I thought it was a blood clot, but A&E ruled it out and sent me on my way!I then thought it was nerve pain but alas it was cramp.

The dr prescribed 60mg baclofen and after another week

My muscles stopped being in spasm. It then took 4 days before the soreness went.

At the very same time of this i lost complete control of my bladder and stopped when the cramps stopped. I was told half way through that I couldn't take anymore paracetamol or ibuprofen because it was causing kidney damage. You can imagine what pain i was in. I was put on antibiotics twice as blood test showed cellulitis. So far I've just had a dopplar done on legs but I've pushed for more because there is no way this is my Fibro. On Tues I will see a vascular surgeon and I'm awaiting a Neurologist appointment.

I honestly thought I was dying

My doctor suggested magnesium tablets and said to make sure I'm well hydrated. I haven't had cramp since. My elderly neighbour used to complain of cramp so I passed the recommendation on to him and he has been cramp free for several years now. Despite our good healthy diets we obviously weren't getting enough magnesium.

Hi,

I suffer from the same, I wear very unflattering night socks, keeping my feet warm stops the cramps from running up the legs at night. I use celtic salt, I put some under my tongue and then drink a glass of water, magnesium oil doesn't really take it off for me, my cramps are pretty bad, I find staying hydrated and using electrolytes and taking plenty of magnesium and potassium in supplement form works better. My spasms and cramps can become very intense so it's become a daily need for me to drink lots of water with the supplements and use celtic salt. Be careful with Potassium supplementation, and speak to your GP again and check bloods, just in case. I did use Quinine but it wasn't effective for me, the cramps just kept coming back, exercise and walking made them worse and it wasn't until I rectified the electrolyte imbalance that I noticed some improvement which I manage by keeping my feet warm at night. I hope this helps, we are all different so find what works for you x Good luck x

Hello Piggy69, generally speaking I haven’t experienced this as a problem that I believed was a fibro thing. Back in 1980 or 81 I awoke from a severe leg cramp that hit so hard that for several days afterwards I felt like I had bruised my calf. Eating 1 banana a day usually would prevent calf muscles from cramping especially at night. I didn’t have fibromyalgia back then. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome in 94.
