PIP age question.

Hi, I had my accident at 24 and I’m 64 now. My National Pension kicks in at 66; do I continue to receive PIP or is it replaced by my pension?

Thanks all, be strong.

Robin

Hi there, f you were already receiving PIP when you reached State Pension age, you can continue to receive it if you continue to meet the eligibility conditions.

Your pip shouldn’t change I continue getting mine was never any questions just started getting pension no problems pip is a legacy benefit they don’t touch it for anything yyoulll still get it if you still have same problems when you get retirement pension then your eligable for pension credit which gets lots of help with benefits you get help with rent council tack glasses and more go to sight under pension credit if your on a low pensiooon yoou may qualify ittthey don’t count your pip as income when you apply for pensiioonn credit you will gett a leaflet along wwith new pension. Annd just phone you

You need ni number and bank account handy if you phone even if you only get £1.00 you can get pension credit .sorry it’s aa long post hope you stop worrrying now about pip

Hi, pension credit is means tested. So if your over a certain limit you won't be eligible for pension credit. That also go's for housing benefit etc.

Momo is correct - normally after retirement age it will be a light touch review and it is usual to be granted as ongoing (10 yrs) subject to no change of circumstances. The DWP can however call for a review if they deem it necessary at any time.

The only thing that changes is one cannot get an increase in the mobility element for example if on standard at retirement then it cannot be upgraded to enhanced after retirement age. At least that’s what my relative was told by advisor when going to Appeal. I’m no expert so might be worth checking with benefits advisor or DWP if you have a few hours spare to be on hold to speak to a human😂

As others have said PIP will carry on as you get now, but if on the lower rate it won't be upgraded even if your conditions get worse. It doesn't affect your pension.

Thanks all, hopefully that will ease the later years..

PIP continues but other benefits like Jobseeker's Allowance, ESA, Carers Allowance, or Universal Credit stop as the Old Age Pension replaces them. Pension Credit can be claimed if income still remains lower than the Government's qualifying thresholds.

Mine stopped at 66 when I received my State pension this year. I was due a review to renew it but the backlog is enormous. Nearly a year later I had a 2 hour telephone assessment again on Monday and nervously awaiting the verdict!

wow, that’s disturbing if not unsurprising given that under the last Gov the onus was on refusal, delay, deferment of any payments not actually providing person with what they need. Mine is due for review in 2yrs and beginning to feel slightly anxious that games will be played that can be catastrophic when on a finely matched budget. I hope things work out for you and quickly. Have you got help from a local advisory group? I used one near me and frankly owe them everything as i was in no fit states to complete the documentation.

Hi Robin I am the same as you, I too reach pension age at 66, and was told that I would still receive my benefits and I will still get my pension. I hope this helps.

hi

I was 66 last November and as other people have said your Pip will continue as long as you meet the relevant criteria. I had a light touch review which was completing a review form. My condition hasn’t changed and I just received a letter confirming same with no end date. I did not have to have a review over the phone or face to face. Hope this helps. Good luck x

Thanks to everyone. Apart from PIP I get Industrial Injuries and that’s all.

Things not to good at the moment, Mother in law has altzhymers (sp) and we think she had a stroke last night so my wife is at hospital with her. One of out dogs has been off colour for a few days and I’ve been at the vet this morning as she is bleeding from her rear. They’ve kept her in, fingers crossed. And I had a tooth fall out yesterday evening and I can’t get a dentist!

Joy comes in threes.

X

it is always better to be awarded PIP before reaching state pension age as you will continue to recotherwise you receive AA - attendance allowance automatically at state pension age (when you apply for it) and AA has no mobility component which is extremely wrong in my opinion.

Hi. I thought the older person's version of PIP is Attendance Allowance.. Check with DWP 🙂

yes it is without mobility component but same lower and higher care you can apply after pension age for attendance allowance first time even though you’ve never had pip
