Hi I don't know about ESA But if you are still getting PIP in January it will continue when you get your pension.

I am sure someone will be along to answer you soon.

Or you could speak privately to our benifits advicer. You will find how to get in touch by pressing on the link below.

ESA is a working age benefit only so yes will stop and you will get you pension instead

PIP will continues and likely you will go o to 'life time awatd'....this ten years and then a light review

Hi BC54.

PiP isn't means tested & nor is it attached to any other benefit as others are.

I'm just wondering that if you only get ur pension if U can apply for universal credit too .

HiYou continue to get PIP but not ESA or UC as these are both working age benefits. However depending on how much your state pension is you might get pension credit. As PIP is nor means tested it could be worth looking into as you can get many other benefits if you get Pension Credit.

I was on ESA support group and I was advised to claim UC . As I was due another ESA payment I had to wait till it arrived before making my claim for UC otherwise once you start your application all ESA benefits stop. I applied on the Tuesday I was going to receive my state pension on the Friday I had a telephone interview on the Thursday agreed to the term and conditions of my UC claim ticked the appropriate boxes on my online journal and my claim was processed my wife as our claim was a joint claim had her phone interview on the Monday as she is my carer she was not required to attend work place assessments and that was 2 years plus ago still getting the UC benefits plus the ESA legacy part. You may need to contact the CAB special UC information line the lady was red hot on the subject matter and that’s all she deals with.

You were lucky to have guidance from someone who knew their way around - when I moved from ESA to state pension last December I lost the legacy part and as I’m on the new pension I’m not eligible for Pension Credit.

Consequently I now have to pay £60 per month towards my rent/C.Tax so I’m considerably worse off! Doesn’t seem fair when absolutely nothing has changed in my circumstances - still unable to work etc and losing ESA means I also lost access to the Cost of Living payments and help with heating bills.

my wife revived a letter from the council stating as I was nearing state pension age she would have to claim UC. On contacting DWP I was informed that I had 2 more ESA payments due before my state pension start date and if we applied for UC before the pension start date I wouldn’t get my ESA payments. So did some online research found CAB UC dedicated help line phoned up and the rest is history. Personally I have found dealing with the DWP reference PIP .ESA and UC very easy straightforward the staff most helpful especially using the UC journal system. I think a lot of claimants don’t know how to communicate without a ranting session or aren’t patient enough after all they are only doing their job as per the guidelines regulations that apply to the benefit they administer. Once we the claimant knows and understands the criteria for claiming and what evidence documentation required then I personally although it can be time consuming frustrating waiting for callbacks being cut off I’ve had it all. My wife and friends have commented that you have patience of a saint and are determined and persistent. Don’t give up google information on can you receive back payments for legacy benefits because you where wrongly informed by DWP. Just a thought.

If you are above State Pension age you might be eligible for Attendance Allowance. I think if you start a new claim after State Pension age you have to apply for this, rather than PIP - at least that's what happened for my relative.

I have just started receiving my state pension, my pip runs till nexted summer so will have to apply again then. You must have a end date on pip. Esa is means test so different. Take care 🙂
