Hi everyone ☺️ I went to see my orthopaedic surgeon the other day regarding my arthritis in my hips. As the years went by ,my arthritis got worse and more painful. Right one is worse than the left.
He said we can do another set of corticosteroids injections , and when I see him in December, we will discuss hip replacement. He already told me with fybro is more complicated - aftercare and I quote ' you never be normal ' .
I read some people have 6 months recovery and pain is there.
I don't know what to do - have it done or not. I want to talk to the GP and Physio to ask their opinion.
I would appreciate any experiences / comments who has fybro and had hip surgery ?

I have fibro and am due to have my left hip replaced on 10/07/2024. I’m not gonna lie, I’m absolutely petrified both of the op and afterwards how it might affect my fibro.
However I’m in so much pain from the arthritis in my hip I’m working on the basis that it can’t be much worse and the eventual outcome will be worth it!
I found the steroid injections only worked for me for a very short time, about a month so I didn’t have them again.
Hi there 😊 , I too have been told I need two knee replacement operation next year. I was told by the consultant that aftercare is the key to my recovery. Therefore I decided to research the aftercare on this type of operation and I feel it will be possible to achieve for me .
I feel sure my body will be affected by the operation . The way of getting through this for me was reviewing the quality of life now . Walking with two sticks ,bone on bone pain and unable to stand for long . Sometimes my knees lock and its very hard to stretch the pain out till the muscles around my knees relax. I feel 100%that my fibromyalgia will kick in big time after the operation but for me it will go through a phase and get better as time goes on. The best thing will be my walking will be improved and no bone to bone pain in my knees. Of course you need to weight up the quality of your hip pain and the stages the fibromyalgia you will go through.
By keeping well. Watching your weight and good diet and vitamins your be well enough to cope with both. Fibromyalgia will settle after time but unfortunately your hips won't without the operation.
I can only suggest from my side of
Problems ahead of me and I am willing to take on that Challenge and get through it.
Wishing you the very best 👌 big hug and stay positive. Research self-help aftercare for your hip operation it will support you in understanding the plan's ahead . 👍
Thank you so much for your reply 😊. I love it when people think positively ! So far the feedback I got ,was positive and yes the phase ' it will get better and I want to get better quality of life ' it's the right attitude. I understand not everyone feels the same or had the same experience.
I will research and ask professional opinions.
I wish you all the best, stay positive, stay strong 💪 and you will get better ! X
Hi I have had a full left knee replacement on 21st march this year was my consultant said it would be complex for me with having back/hip and other health issues and was worried really about fibromyalgia but you are right you need to go in positive and I am not going to lie about the pain but let the tears come and drive through those exercises even if you manage nothing else it is so worth it my consultant never though i would get a 90 bend and i am on 116 at last physio., down to 1 stick just there when I get tired so go for it hips or knees the pain is worth it to be able to get some of your life back after xx
Thank you for your reply. Well done for all the progress you achieved so far ! Honestly the more I read people's experiences, the more I'm in ' go for it girl ' mode.
I really appreciate honesty and I'm aware of having bad pain ,it's in the package but it will be worth it.
I wish you all the best with your recovery and beyond. Take care 🙂.
