Has anyone else had kidney problems with taking Naproxen or similar?
I have been diagnosed now with Chronic Kidney disease which is probably due to long term use of Naproxen. I have been on this for 8 years or more and now being told that this is for short term use only. In the last 2 weeks I have been diagnosed with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, kidney stones and Chronic Kidney disease.

I am so sorry to hear this, did they tell you what stage your kd is at?
Truly a doctor should have picked up on the length of time you was taking them, and realised, short term use, I can imagine how scared and upset you must be.
I do know quite a bit about kd damage, and stones and treatments, so if you need any help, I will try and help you.
Did d the hospital say anything about diet, and your raised bp, and to avoid certain foods?
Thanks for your response. I have a follow up appointment on 15th so I will find out more then. Urology are booking me in to have the kidney stones blasted as they are too big to pass.
I have sent the Doctor another email about my medication but she has authorised Naproxen again and rejected my methotrexate so I’m now even more concerned as to what is going on.
My husband had the same, Lithotripsy, they sit you in water, just your bottom, and blast them, some how you need to get some pain meds sorted, as they are painful to pass, even tiny ones, some may dissolve, hopefully.
If from what I remember, all my husband meds were stopped, and no ensaids were allowed , he also had to watch his calcium intake, I think he was only allowed cocodamol, in small doses.
I would call your doctor, and get something sorted, it’s terrible how they are treating you, you never know by stopping Naproxen, might by some miracle, kick start your kidneys .
Hi Nelly1, yes I've been told I have CKD by my GP. I was a long term user of Arcoxia (NSAID) and strangely my GP doesn't appear bothered and hasn't recommended stopping them.
It was the first thing I did. The Kidney forum on here is good for information, especially if you have a GP like mine. I'm stage 3a and hoping to keep it at that. What stage are you?
I have my liver checked every 6mths do too taking Duloxtene , we have meds too help us but there can also cause other issues , sometimes we cannot win. Sorry too read this ,seems us Fibro s get stuff added too our health , im sending my best wishes too you x
Sorry to hear you are dealing with so much!Found your post because I've just been prescribed Naproxen for severe Fibromyalgia pains and wanted to hear about others experience because I was hoping for CBT referral not meds. Interestingly my GP (who was really horrible!) has just told me I need to take this every day for the long term! Won't be taking now... Thank you! And good luck with your health issues.
