Before I was diagnosed, my Dr had put me on Naproxen and co codamol to deal with my pain. I just wondered, do I really need the Naproxen? they are an anti inflammatory? Any ideas? Bet Emma answers first!!!! Hahahaha!.. xx

Hi lots of people seem to be put on these

For me it made no differience to pain,

Like lots of people I have pain round my

Back into my hips and down my legs I

Always have pain there, but in a flare I

Can't walk. and GP thought that Naproxen

Would help, but it made no differience

So now having injections. But it may work

For you.

Good luck, I don't think anything that we take

Makes us pain free, but some times it takes the

Edge off the pain and if Naproxen does that for

You it's good.

Hi, naproxen was prescribed to me before I was told I had Fibromalgia, I did not find it to be beneficial at all. I'm now on Lyrica which does seem to be getting to the pain but I cannot cope with the tiredness.

Hi ninjananna

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you can be today? I am so sorry but I do not think that I can answer your question. It might be an idea to consult your GP and ask them if you can have a trial period without taking your Naproxen, but keep some available in case your pain levels increase and you need to restart it.

I really hope that this can help you in some way, and I am so sorry that this is the advice that I can offer you.

All my hopes and dreams for you.

I was on co-codamol & naproxen long before my fibro,I take it for other reasons, but I find that my co-codamol does not work without the naproxen, which is rather frustrating, especially each time the stop my naproxen for periods of time! x

Hello Ninjananna,

I did have a giggle at your post, then I wondered 'oh my goodness I hope I do not come across as a know it all !' :P

In answer to your question, it is how long is a piece of string really. I suppose if you way up any benefits you get from the medication, any side effects and whether you have any other conditions that are helped by NSAIDS. For instance, Naproxen is helpful for my Plantar Fasciitis and the pain & discomfort I get from that.

It is all about whether you find any benefit from them or not ?!

Here's some information from the website which may help;

Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), such as Ibuprofen, are sometimes used as mild analgesics in the treatment of Fibro. However, Fibro itself does not have inflammation associated with it and so the anti-inflammatory benefit of NSAIDs is wasted. NSAIDs also carry a risk of gastrointestinal complications and Fibro patients are already at higher than normal risk of suffering from gastrointestinal conditions, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and reflux (Lindsey Middlemiss 2009)

I hope this helps :)

That's great Emma and,no! you certainly dont come across as a know it all! You see I read something similar to the information you have given and thought, "I don't really need these". The co-codomol I take are quite strong, so are beneficial for my pain. I do have a prolapsed disc (c4\5) to which I'm due a needle!!!(yuck) The point is....I just don't want to take meds that I don't need. As always thank you for reply "Nurse" Hahaha.... Much love.... Ninja....xxx

Hi I take naproxen 500mg for my feet I have 3 things wrong with them causing pain and they really work well for them but my back they don't touch and I don't take them every day just when my feet are really bad. I have found if I continue them for long period of time they stop working so it's better to stop when can. They are anti inflammatory which is why they good for certain things but don't touch others. Hope that helps a little :) I will say this they are the one pain killer I have that I have no side effects from x
