Diagnosed a few years ago but decided not to take medication. The only meds I take are for my underactive Thyroid,i also have Ostioarthritis and Scoliosis but finding my pain is gradually feeling worse. What medication would you recommend? I am sociable and enjoy a sociable beer so is there anything I can take that will allow me to carry on having a beer with friends?

hi, the majority of prescription meds would recommend no alcohol, paracetamol would be ok, and pain creams. Like movelate, I think it’s because it can cause confusion and also a lot of the meds can affect your liver.

Sorry so couldn’t be more helpful.

I take Duloxetine 90g daily. Advised to take at night, but sleep was very poor, so now take when I wake up 6am. I usually have a small glass red wine with evening meal. When symptoms seem worse, I use a small blob of cbd paste 3.000mg under the tongue. Most days ok and sometimes almost anpble to ignore . My issue now is sudden need to go to urinate, not incontinent, but can be a nuisance. Am also receiving OCC Therapy 1-1 pain management apps at local surgery- helpful.

Ivyamanda. I also take Duloxetine at a dosage of 120mg, it’s supposed to help with the urgency to urinate. As well as this I take Tolteridine, which really helps with the sudden urge to pee.

Hi Henry, this would be a good question to ask your local pharmicist. They are the people who work with medications and would have a better idea how much beer you can drink on pain medication if any.

I guess It would come down to what you class as a few social beers lol.

I would definitely have a word with a pharmicist. If you have one that works with your surgery like I do that would be great. You could ring them and book an apointment.

Of course it’s nice too socialize with friends and very positive catching up and putting the world too rights , I do agree I would differently speak too your pharmacist ,they give out great advice , A chilled beer comes too mind today as my team lost in the Championship yesterday 🤣and the teams above all won , typical, tactical error I think as the manager who I rate didn’t start the game with our new loanee Striker 🤣2nd half he came on and scored 2 goals but we lost 3-2 .

Tumeric is a herbal remedy for inflammation which is the most likely cause of the pain. The staff in Holland & Barrett will advise you of anything else that would help. Most prescribed medication don’t advise mixing them with alcohol

Hello, I have become allergic to alcohol. I was told that it does happen to some people who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I've now not had a drink since 2010. I do miss having a drink. I am now known as the lady who drinks blackcurrant cordial in a wine glass when having a meal. Also drink alcohol free beers. There are so many now. There was not the choice back then. I have even been asked if I was an alcoholic. I always try and explain, but now I don't care what they think. They are always pleased when I say I'll drive, as I am totally sober. I also don't seem to tolerate powerful drugs. It's really just to say you are not alone. Take care

Hi thereI never realised this. I do tend to feel so much worse after drinking alcohol. I might try having alcohol free and see how I go. Thanks for the info.

could you drink no alcohol beer? As others have mentioned nearly all meds recommend no alcohol. You can still be sociable and not drink and you won’t feel so bad the following day either.

I am in the same boat. Alcohol is a big trigger for my joint pain and would leave me in pain for two weeks after a proper night out.I chose to ignore this for a solid decade and it left me in a bad way.

I stopped drinking 6 months ago and it's had a really positive effect on my health. And I'm still able to have a normal social life.

Definitely worth a try in my opinion. Good luck 👍

I too have stopped drinking alcohol as it makes me feel really ill the next day. I used to have a drink every night. I also can't drink Coca-Cola either as that seems to upset me too. Don't know why it just does. Even tried the non alcohol gin but that upsets me also.

Hello. I kept ignoring my GP. Got to the point after a glass of wine, I was sick after it. Not good!! Once I stopped it's never happened again. If you are allergic your body knows best. It took a while to accept and live being 24/7 totally sober. Yes drink with a wine glass or a pint pot. Just nothing alcoholic inside. 😉
