Yes they do help I don’t think I could do without them. I no way would be able to live the life I do without them.

Hi, I don't take any fibro meds. The medication available may help some and not others. It's a case of test and try I'm afraid.

I don't take anything for fibro either, nothing worked but they did have negative side effects.

The meds people usually take for fibromyalgia are like gabapentin and pregablin and Duloxetine I've tried all three I'm now on pregablin but everyone is different I couldn't use the duloxetine I had side effects but gabapentin I was on for years then my body got use to it so stopped working now im on pregablin. i’ve tried all the MEDS none of them worked they just create other problems and put on lots of weight made me feel rubbish. I’m now on LDN speaking from a personal point of view. It’s the best drug no no weight gain just benefits.

same here, low dose naltrexone has helped more than any of the prescribed meds. I do find making sure blood pressure is stabilised also helps and make sure your body isn’t holding too much water. Cutting down on carbs has helped too.

Astonvilla68 profile image
Astonvilla68 in reply toHyacinthBouquet1

low dose Naltrexone. My neurologist told me about it I have to pay £30 a month but I’ve had no at all and it’s really helped unlike all the others put weight on and have high blood pressure the all sorts of issues.

I take Amiyriptyline 10mgs X 3, plus 15mgs Codeine. They do help, and I know I'd be unable to function without meds and sleep would be impossible.

Thank you so much Fibo, gosh that's quite a cocktail you take. Poor you. Yes, mine seems to be getting worse, I thought it wasn't a progressive condition , so maybe its just a flare up.

fibo profile image
fibo in reply tofluffmonkey

It does get worse I'm afraid fluffmonkey they tell you it's not progressive but that means it won't kill you, after 26yrs of it my husband is now my carer, The flare-ups get longer and closer together and it wears you down sorry. take care 🙂

I used to have Gabapentin and Tramadol, which did help, but we moved house so had to change GP surgery and new GP refuses to give me these medications. He is adamant that medication does not work for Fibromyalgia and you just have to learn to deal with it! I contacted the consultant who diagnosed me and unfortunately she now agrees with the GP, even though she prescribed them on diagnosis! So I now rely on over the counter medication, Co-Codamol helps a little.

Thats awful - can you see a private pain doctor? you shouldnt be left with no pain relief.

I take amitriptyline and cocodamol at night …seems to just take enough pain/ restlessness off to sleep ( most days). I swim 50 mins 5x a week to keep muscles stretched and working…seems to stop the lower back/ hip stiffness.

Good for you, I think exercise is really important but its very difficult to do, stiffness is such a problem. Glad the tablets are helping though.

I don't take any meds as the unpleasant side effects kick in before the good stuff.

I rely on my TENS machines for temporary pain relief.

I use the COMFYTEMP wireless TENS machine which is £25.99 on Amazon (other devices are available but I like this one).

I have recently discovered "Air Compression Massage" devices which work by inflating and deflating bladders applying pressure.

Like TENS they relieve the pain whilst I am using them but the relief is temporary.

They can be very expensive...up to £900 but the ones I use are made by RENPHO. I have the

"RENPHO Leg Massager with Heat, Compression Calf Thigh Foot Massage" which is £99 on

Amazon (though they have a £25 voucher offer at the moment) and the cordless calf and

ankle massagers which recharges with a USB lead and is great for travelling..it also fits on my arms.

I have included a picture of me wearing my leg massager (I wish!)

Mods...please feel free to edit my post if I'm not allowed to recommend specific products .

My journey with fibromyalgia over the years has been talking many drugs to support my pain levels. However after years of taking these drugs I realised that the drugs had huge side effects which I was getting every minute of the day. Therefore I took the choice to come of my painkillers and see what self help would do to me and my symptoms.

I started with using a tens machine, taking magnesium vitamins tablets, magnesium spray rub into your muscles.

Using warm.oils to rub into my muscles.

Keep your body warm at all times if possible.

Stretching exercises which break the pattern of pain and these should be done through out the day.

Chair Yoga exercises are also very good for pain levels.

Ask your GP about the pain clinic program.

Also courses on living with long term illness.

Look on line for talking therapist website. You can put yourself forward to chat to a therapist who will support you and advise .

Looks at your diet and check what foods could be making you worse. Eat a good diet. Rich in vitamins.

Take fibromyalgia vitamins to support your immune system.

Lose weight if need be to take any pressure off your muscles.

Review your footwear to support you back .

Use heat pads 🔥 when pain kicks in.

Research self-help and fibromyalgia studies.

Think about ways to stay away from stress

Listen to music or stories books or what you like to do.

Keep moving throughout the day . When resting move your feet and legs.

Drink more water 💧 watch your intake of tea and coffee .

Build strength in your body to help improve your well-being. Change your mindsets and lifestyle.

It has taken me years to get to the point where some of these things workled for me .

Tramadol is the only painkiller I take when I want to achieve more than my body wants to do .

I do not take Tramadol everyday it's when I want to go shopping or an event where I will be on my feet for a few hours. If you take painkillers like I did everyday after a while they do not work.

I started my journey on 4 sets of painkillers and now regret the damage this might have done to other parts of my body .

I feel more alive less brain fog and my Determination in staying in control of this horrible illness and my mindset.

I understand when your body is screaming pain at you . A pain killers is the answer in some cases yes. but others times manged it with self-help if possible.

Listen to what your body is saying to you.

There loads of support and information about what could help you. Good luck and take each step slowly. Look after yourself and your mindset because this illness affects you and others in so many ways. Take care big hugs 🫂. Xx
