There are many different areas of psychiatry, so you really need to see your GP to get an idea of the type of psychiatrist you need to see.

It is quite likely you will need to see one privately as NHS psychiatrists do have really long waiting lists.

I hope your GP can help you.

Good evening AgedCrone,

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my post, very much appreciated. Yes, I couldn't agree more with you: the NHS has long waiting lists for not only Psychiatry, but other medical issues as well.

I have a good idea of the type of Psychiatrist I need to see, but my GP has been absent from the practice I attend since last year, and hopes to return sometime in January 2025. There are some other GPS in the practice.

My relationship with them is not bad, but they are always stressed, and rush through everything. Many of their patients complain about this. I will try and see what else I can do about this matter, and would like to thank you again for your reply and input in this matter.

You could have a word with the practice nurse ….if she has been with the practice a while I would think she would have some idea of who you might see. might get things moving a bit.

Have a look at the Maudsley Hospital both private and NHS. London based. Lots of different specialist consultants listed with biographies and their areas of expertise.

Hello Dinkie,

Thank you very much for this information, much appreciated. I was not aware that the Maudsley Hospital in South London, is both NHS & Private. This is even better. What I will do is look into this as a matter of urgency. I can't thank you enough for your kind help and input in this matter.

You are indeed a very kind person. I can recollect that this is not the first time you've given me good advice in this community. Many thanks again, and have a great weekend.
