Can anyone tell me if Vitamin B12 has helped them and what dose do they take. Also is it better to have tablet or injection. My daughters think it may help.
Hope you are all having the best day you can. At least that heat is a little better now!!
Keep smiling Trikki xx

It will help you if you need it is about as best as I can say. If you go to the GP and ask them if it is worth doing a test to see if you are deficient.
"Vitamin B12 has helped them and what dose do they take. Also is it better to have tablet or injection."
Hi Trikki - suspecting so, my GPs tested my B12 and it was always a bit low. So I got the normal (cyanocobalamin) pills from my GP, even pre-fibro. Didn't improve symptoms though. "Getting" fibro, I decided to try switching and got me a better form of B12 as injections, in high dose. This made my levels rocket so high that I could reduce the jabs to once every 3 or 4 months. Still no symptom improvement. But I keep at it to keep my levels average.
As desquinn said, starting point and also "check point" is to monitor your B12 blood levels regularly. It's slightly controversial when exactly B12 is "low" and some people argue it might help even if it isn't that low. (At least that's the case for vit. D; I seem to remember for B12 too). So that's a bit of a personal decision and testing if it helps, plus if you're vegetarian etc...
If you want to and are able to buy "better" tablets, you'd need to try methyl- or hydroxo- or adenosyl-cobalamin or some combination of these (all slightly different) instead of cyanocobalamin.
If tablets still aren't working too well and you think that might be your gut or you just want to try injections, I was told that you in the UK need to order them from Germany, e.g. from the Arnika Apotheke Unterhaching, by
Doses you can get there are 1mg or 5mg or 10mg, they recommended to use 1mg and alternate the forms, but at that time could only offer me 5mg methyl-cobalamin.
Also I saw on your profile your question about vitamin D, but that might have been when you joined in 2016... Still: For vit. D you might want/need to try high dose 20.000 IU once a week of D3, not D2 (some say only even more helped them), and best with vit. K2 in the MK7 form, if you haven't yet. Same with that for me: No difference to my symptoms, but I continue it, to keep my levels up.
Unfortunately there is no perfect test for B12 deficiency, so your serum B12 being 'ok' may not mean you are actually ok. Try to get a copy of your results - full blood count and B12, folate etc and post them here or on Pernicious Anaemia forum. It can get a bit complicated, but many processes involved, any of which can go wrong. Cheers
Check with your GP regarding this. Vit B is only given to those with low Vit B levels which can be established by having an appropriate blood test. Tablet won't work as Vit B only works when it is administered via circulating blood. I hope this advise helps.
Many find that either tablets or sublingual (tablets, sprays, liquid) work fine - it depends on why you are B12 deficient and where the absorption problem, if you have one, is. Those with PA generally need injections, commonly far more often than is prescribed, and some use sublinguals in between, although again they don't work for everyone. B12 deficiency diagnosis requires several tests and is easily missed. Most of the other B vits aren't even tested for. Cheers
My bloods showed ok but using B12 definitely helps me. If you start to not absorb it properly from food your levels get depleted and can't recover. That is also why one of the most effective ways to take it (apart from injection at the doctors) is the mouth spray which absorbs straight into the blood stream avoiding the digestive system altogether....
Hi Trikki, sorry for late reply I just woke up on the sofa again 🙄after 3 and a half hours. I found when I first started having the b12 injections a few years ago every three months that they really helped with the fatigue but as with a lot of things it didn’t really last and so dr said to up it to every two months but to be honest I am not really feeling much benefit these days. Although I have this year been diagnosed with hyper somnia on top of sleep apnea that I’ve had for about 7 years. I am always exhausted no matter what. I’ve just had an overnight sleep study at guys and I’m wearing the watch for another month as the deep level of sleep and the amount was a suprise to them so until I send the watch back in a couple of weeks and then wait for the results I don’t know much more at the moment but they did mention putting me on stimulants🤷♀️Going by the results overnight. B12 injections maybe aren’t enough for me with this condition but it’s always worth a try with gp’s advice etc of course. Good luck 🤞
I have been diagnosed today with fibromyalgia today it has taken 5 years from first having carpal tunnel and 8 years since diagnosed with b12 deficiency.Although I have b12 injections every three months this is not enough .I supplement with sublingual b12 and it really about finding the one that suits you.Just vitamins B12 seems to suit me ,defo work taste ok Make sure any you buy are sublingual, go under tongue Hope this helps
Hi may61 and welcome!: I hope it helps you now to have the diagnosis to find better help.
May I ask what you mean by "just vitamins B12"? Do you use a combination of adenosyl-, methyl- and hydroxocobalamin, but with nothing else than these B12-vitamins-forms?
I have tried loads of different brands. I had found one with hydroxy and adenysol which was great for me ,but now it isn’t manufactured The brand JUST VITAMINS make a great methylcobalamin which suits me I do think it is a case of finding the one that suits you and don’t forget to keep good levels folic acid .
