Morning everyone... hope you are all as well today?
Does anyone know if there are any natural treatments that can help with Fibromyalgia? I'm taking Amitriptyline and pregabalin but wondered if any vitamin supplements would help manage the condition?

This subject often comes up on our Forum, I always say to people ask your g.p. NOT a herbal shop who will sell you what he thinks will make him a big profit; I get b12 injections and take folic acid prescribed by my g.p. Not many people know that you can O.D on vitamins if your body doesn,t need them.. Most over the counter versions are about 1% vitamins the rest are placebo or additives, cost a fortune and do nothing for you..always better to have a blood test and get a correct diagnosis of any deficiency otherwise there,s everything you need in your daily pinta and a good food diet..
I have regular acupuncture, Nutrition advice and sometimes other things recommended. A Traditional Chinese Medicine Qualified Practitioner. No she isn't chinese and that is why I went to her. Look on a site called Health Dispensary at Neath. That is where I go and she will tell you where to look online for the qualified register in UK. You know then that they are fully trained so will not do you harm. They work alongside Western Medicine. My GP gives me all hospital report and test results that I give her a copy of. I have come down from 60mg of Duloxitine to 40mg since the treatment got on top of the pain. I only get pain now if I do something I shouldn't like doing too much. If I pace myself and listen to my body I have no problems. The lady I see is very skilled and controls my heart problems and eye problems. Skin problems. When people see my they say you look well. I always think don't judge a book by its cover. So glad I listened to my practitioner and don't get the terrible pain and mind fog that made me think I had scrambled eggs instead of brains. I was also advised by her to do Tai Chi for the muscles. I go to a Sun Style Tai Chi class every week. When I don't go for a few weeks my legs stiffen up. It takes a few weeks to get into it again and then my muscles are fine. It must be Sun Style and a teacher who understands that it is only for health reasons. I hope you get respite and I do understand the problems with Blue Badges. There have been times when I haven't been able to go out because of the walking from a car park. All the best in the future.
Hello Capetown2707 and welcome to our friendly fibro forum where you can get information, support, advice and help as well as a chuckle or two.
Have you seen our Mother Site fmauk.org ? Here you will find all things about fibro including links and guides.
If you look to the right of your post in blue under Related Posts you will find other members experiences of vitamins and supplements.
In Pinned Posts, underneath you will see instructions on making the most of the forum, including locking your osts which we advise for internet security.
It would be prudent to ask your doctor for Vitamin tests before you consider buying supplements. A lot of fibro sufferers benefit from bathing in Epsom Salts as this is rich in magnesium and can be absorbed through the skin.
Some find success with a change in diet, leaving off gluten and avoiding processed sugary foods and meats. Avoid diet drinks as the sweeteners are a known factor in muscle and joint pain.
Avoid "Nightshade" type fruit and veg like tomatoes and potatoes. Citrus fruits can also cause pain.
I hope this helps and we see you joining in around the forum.
I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I agree that some supplements may help but as some of your other respondents have said it is always best to talk to your GP about what deficiencies you may have. Many supplements can easily be overdosed and have horrendous side effects if you do not need them.
I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself my friend.
