Oramorph & Codine 2 Different Docs

One Doctor is telling me to take co- codamol 30-500 4 times a day with oramorph 5 mls 4 times a day .Other doctor is saying don’t take codine with oramorph at all. I am totally confused now feeling anxious .

Hi there dotty, I would call your surgery first thing in the morning and ask for someone to clarify the instructions. Failing that give your chemist a call and ask to speak with the pharmacist. It maybe an idea to ask your doctor at the time if anything like this happens again. I hope you get it sorted out tmw. I agree when doctors give different advice it's very very confusing 🙄🤗

I can only go by what I was told when I was given Oramorph & that was not to take my 30/500s with it.

Codeine metabolizes to morphine in the body but it does so at different rates in different people so should not be given at the same time as oramorph in case of overdose. This is why I was given oramorph when I was pregnant bc at least that way they could control my actual dose so as to minimize danger to my baby.

I used to be prescribed oramorph, morphine tablets and dihydrocodeine at the same time. Usually oramorph is used as a top up, I was told it was fine but I'm not an expert
