Hi everyone...for the last week ive had a really bad flare up and ive been taking 500gm codine and paracetamol tabs to help with the pain. Im feeling really spaced out when i take them and sleep so much. Has anyone else had this problem and do you think its anything to do with mixing codine and duloxetine (40mg) Jools xx

when you first start taking codiene, its normal to feel woozy and tired, it took few months before my body got used to the side effects, however, the whole time i was taking codiene, the side effects were always there, just to a lesser degree x

Hi joolscumbria,

Are you taking Co-Codamol 8/500 or 30/500? The symptoms you have are very common for this medication. Codeine is an opioid and very strong, so if you have been given the 30/500 it might be worth asking your GP to prescribe the lower 8/500 one.

Duloxetine isn't listed as a drug that interacts with codeine, so I think you are OK there.

The 'spaced out' effect should reduce after a few days, but if it doesn't, try taking half a tablet instead of a whole one. If that's no better you need to see you GP. Tell him you can't manage the way they are making you feel and ask for a change to something else.

The other most common side effect is constipation so make sure you adjust your diet to avoid that, drink plenty of fluids and walk as much as you can manage.

hope that helps, happy hugs, kate :)

Hi Jools, also please remember that with Duloxetine (Cymbalta) it can make you feel particularly nauseous, so make sure you eat first. This is advisable before taking Co-Codamol/Solpadol as well.

Keep your GP informed as to how you are feeling taking both these medications, hopefully the side effects will subside shortly and you will start to feel better. Take care! :) :)

I only take co-codamol 30/500 when I really can't take the pain anymore. Two make me "zonked out" so take 1 then hour later 2nd one. Sometimes they make me sick. Also if I take regularly for more than 3 days start to get awful anxiety, can't bear that side effect.

As 30/500 don't get rid of my pain, I was dumbfounded my Dr prescribed me 8/500. Useless! Both the drug & GP! LOL! xx
