Pleased to meet you. Welcome to this lovely group. This is one of my main symptoms and it is very frightening so understand your anxiety. I have had ecg bloods etc all clear. In this hot weather my chest went all horrid and tense tonight. Now under my fan cooling down pain is going. It could also be a condition called costrocontritos spelt wrong 😂😂😂 which is inflammation of the joints in the ribs which is very painful. The best thing to do is try not to worry easier said than done and relax. Another tip I learnt was if you press the painful area and it hurts unlikely to be cardiac xx

Hun I really get that starts with a little thought then spirals. Don’t google symptoms if you can help it it will always come up with the most severe. Have you a tens machine? I use CBD muscle rub when bad it really helps xx

I try not to nothing good ever comes from looking symptoms up. I have CBD oil I think and have been using that it seems to help a little x

Hi

Yes, I agree. I've got chostochondritis and it is extremely painful. Try not to worry, easy for me to say, I'm the world's worst for worrying!! Take care Lynne

If all heart tests are coming back normal, then as others say it is very possible that you have costochondritis. This is a very common co-morbid condition with fibromyalgia.

If you can tolerate anti - inflammatory meds, then they can help with the inflammation.

I personally find that when mine flares, lying with my electric heatpad across chest can help with pain.... Other people find that cold helps better. Xxx

I was doing last night as well it sort of helped I think it's my anxiety that gets the better of me sometimes 😕

The anxiety can be every bit as bad as the physical symptoms. I use mindfulness a lot to help with anxiety attacks.

Yeah I have been using that on and off for the past Month and it seems to help a little. Thinking I need to be more consistent with it though lol x

What you are experiencing is very common under the umbrella diagnosis of fibromyalgia, but please don't start to accept the pains you experience as "normal".

Costochondritis:

From the NHS website: "Costochondritis is the medical term for inflammation of the cartilage that joins your ribs to your breastbone (sternum). This area is known as the costochondral joint."

Looking into costochondritis it appears to me to be another label for otherwise unexplained painful symptoms. Without a biopsy or external signs of inflammation then I'm not sure how "inflammation" can be confirmed to be present at the costochondral joints. Confirmation of pain - yes that's easy YOU know it's there, but inflammation is a complex subject and the term is often misused. Just my thoughts.

And a few more thoughts:

I've always been fascinated with the term "hypochondriac" and it's etymological origins - approximating to "under rib cartilage".

I thought for a long time I must be a hypochondriac. A whole list of unexplained, shifting symptoms, pains and niggles.   Always something wrong, always in pain.  Never feeling 'healthy'. (This is pre-internet and pre-"fibro" awareness.)

The pains and other symptoms were real. Now that I have healed I know that. I learned to release the pain by focusing on using the 5 main muscles of movement to their full potential, beginning with and alway working from my Base-Line muscles (pelvic floor Base, rectus abdominis Line). If you click on my icon you'll see my other posts explaining in more detail, please read and think about the anatomy.

Google "hypochondrium" and have a look at the images to see where your hypochondria (plural) are on your body.

The hypochondrium ≊ where your rectus abdominis muscles attach.

The top of your Base-Line muscles.
