Part of the reason for posting it was because we had a post in all caps. However when one of the admin team reached out to them and very politely pointed out why it was not a great idea they left the forum.

Before they left however they decided to delete the post where the admin had explained why and took all replies with it. AND they then decided to berate two of the admin team for pointing out the post and trying to help.

It was easier for them to type in all caps and easier for them to read and the forum was not positive and not helpful.

I was not involved in this discussion at all but it is NOT HELPFUL to berate the volunteers that are reaching out to you to help you get your question answered. They will not read this as they have left and I am not reaching out for sympathy or support but the team do try and help with every post. If they are correcting something of yours or pointing something out then taking a breath and thinking before responding is best.

Most people are great and do this and thank the admin and take on board the advice. But throwing toys out the pram and leaving is not very adult like. Throwing around I am in pain and have poor concentration and this or that....... Well your volunteering admin that you were berating is somebody that can empathise with you and understand and they will take that breath and moment before they respond and try and help you.

So I would just like to thanks the admin team for continuing to help and support all the new and existing members. And if this person comes back and looks for support then they will be there to help and support.

Thanks and sorry for the rant,

Regards

Des

Hi desquinn

😊🌿🌸🦋

It’s okay to rant. Everyone has those moments at one time or another.

First of all I can’t say this enough to you and all your team members thank you so much for making this site possible. Without it my life would be so lonely as I’m housebound. I’ve met some wonderful people made deep friendships and been able to read and share our Fibro experiences with those fellow sufferers who are the only ones who know exactly what I’m going through.

I’m sooo sorry about your berating experience with that member who did all caps.

I remember and read the post. It hit me as strange in that I’ve never seen an all cap post before. I didn’t take it myself as yelling but since you’ve mentioned it now I do remember hearing caps mean shouting/aggression.

You and your team do an excellent job of fair play for all members. Since we are all human we are bound to slip up to forget and break the rules. You are kind enough to gently remind us.

Part of being an adult is to take correction and instruction. However there are some people that don’t know how to take that an perceive it to be an attack.

Try not to let it bother you dear. We can’t please everyone in this world.

As long as you are doing your job to the best of your ability that’s all you can do.

I hope you will have a good and painless weekend dear desquinn.

Love 💗 hugs 🤗 kisses 😘 and prayers 🙏

EvaJo 😊🌿🌸🦋🙏😇🕊

thanks for the comments they are appreciated. I am ok with this and other worse behaviour as been at this sort of thing for a while but I do feel the need to protect/stand up for the team.

But beyond this I am hoping that the explanation may help future posters.

I hope you were able to shake it off sweetie.

You nor any team member deserve that kind of treatment. Sooo sorry 😐

I’m so sorry this happened to you Momo, no one should berated you, or any of the admin team, no matter what issues they have, without the wonderful job you all, we wouldn’t have a forum! A big thank you to all of you, for all the work you do.

I do think some people see the worse in situations and immediately feel victimised, even when there is no justification.

I remember going to a lovely event with friends and having a wonderful time, so imagine our shock when we found out that they had a full blown rant to a member of staff about what a terrible time they’d had and how they wouldn’t go again. We were speechless and spent ages afterwards reassuring the very upset staff member that we’d had a great time. It wasn’t the first time they’d done it either, but it was the last event that we went anywhere with them. They were always the victim of some “incompetence” or other, I guess it depends on your outlook on life!

Gentle hugs, Rosey xx

Thanks Rosey, I think what gets me is once someone has berated you in public. They then feel the need to do it in private for some weird reason. Awww there's nothing as strange as folks has my old dad always said 😁. I hope your keeping well Rosey xx

Bemoresquirrel profile image
Bemoresquirrel in reply toDizzytwo

Your dad was right!!! I think I’d ignore them, or just forward them to Des! Don’t see why you have to put up with that twice! That is doubly unfair! 😡

I’m having a lot of problems with my hands, which is why I’ve not been around much, as typing is very painful, as is dictation, but in completely a different way! 😂

I’ve now got early stage, but rapidly developing, Dupuytrens Contracture in both hands, all fingers. 😢 Probably as a result of not being able to move them for 2 months in the autum, due to the adverse drug reaction.

My grip is quite weak and I’ve been repeatedly dropping things since then (a symptom). Being thin and having Viking ancestors apparently doesn’t help either.

Tying to stay positive. Busy collecting various supplements and creams to try and slow down it’s progress. I’m trying avoiding keeping them bent (the most comfortable position).

At least my shingles has finally started to fade in the last couple of days, so at least people will stop taking 3 steps back when I answer the door!! 🤭 😂

Don’t let folks get to you, they’re not worth it. Hugs, xx

Dizzytwo in reply toBemoresquirrel

Oh Rosey, I am sorry your having so much difficulty with your poor hands. Glad to hear the shingles are almost gone. So that's where mine came from I blame you 😋😄 yes you guessed I'm a pain in the Bum right now.

After been a mod for a while you soon learn to toughen up that's for sure. It's like water off a ducks back now. Well almost 😂 you take care of yourself and I do hope you find some relief for your hands xx

Bemoresquirrel profile image
Bemoresquirrel in reply toDizzytwo

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear about the shingles! I promise I didn’t send it your way.

It was tea tree oil and aloe vera gel that worked for me, after nothing else made much difference for almost 2 months. A few days using that and it’s a huge improvement, could have been a coincidence, but the tea tree oil dried out the spots and the aloe vera soothed the dry, burning and itching skin.

Hope yours goes away soon. xx

Thank you Des, for the link I will make sure I have it for future reference. I am so sorry if It upset the new member I tried to help by politely pointing out the problems typing in all Caps can cause to many many people who post on the forum.

While I completely understand their health issues I have carpel tunnel myself. The admin team have to always consider the needs of the the forum has a whole.

Thank you so much, the whole admin team do pull together both behind and in front of the screen. But it goes with out saying a forum is only as good as it's members. So we are very lucky we have some great members 🤗🤗🤗

Hi Dizzytwo

It's hard work running a forum and I know that I and many, many others on here fully appreciate the hard work you and others put in to keeping this forum the wonderful place that it is.

Keep your chin up mate... there's always one or two that have just not grown up sufficiently yet!

PS... The last dog (rottie) I had was named Dizzy.... the one I have now (boxer) is called Kizzy! ;-p

The volunteer Admin do a grand job. They put aside their own personal pain and suffering to offer advice and support to the rest of us. We are grateful they are there.

Thank you for that and I couldn’t agree more.

You said you were looking for help on the admin team, is that still the case? I did respond initially but hadn’t heard anything.

Just wondering

Thank you all for your hard work

Debbie

Thanks Debbie for showing an interest. We have been considering utting up a post looking for new members of the admin team.

I must admit I cant remeber your previous contact but that could be just my memory at the moment. For joining the admin team we would be looking for people that have been on the forum for at least 6 months but probably longer and have been actively contributing to the forum so we can see they have the skills and commitment that would lead us to think they can help out and fit in with the existing team.

for anyone that does want to apply to volunteer with the charity as an admin member or any other role then the first step is to fill in our volunteer form on our website at fmauk.org/volform.

thanks again for your interest.

The moderators do a great job ,without them there would be just a few very 'unhelpful' people dominating site and upsetting people living with Fibro. Bad posting makes everyone sad. Ok someone might accidentally put capital letters on but we should check what we have written before we post shouldn't we ?

I agree, I've been a forum mod and it's not always easy to do, some people don't understand that there are usually a set of rules for a forum which we are meant to follow and some don't understand that it's a mods/admins job to sort issues or to point things out that aren't right. They don't deserve to be spoken down to.

I saw someone trying to correct one of the admins a couple of weeks ago and I'm just sat here rolling my eyes because the info they gave in the first place wasn't correct and the admin was just letting them know and trying to help.

Thanks to the admin and mods for trying to make FMAUK forums a place we can talk to others in the same sort of situation, it does help when your own GP's don't listen.
