Sorry to hear that , wether you can get your money back depends on what type of creditor you are ... I suspect that he won’t have made specific arrangements to keep your deposit out of the business bank account. I think it would be worth going to the citizens advice and seeing if they can put you in touch with a lawyer who can give you advice etc based on your contracts etc.

Hope you get something back or at least the support you need

Shame

I don't like credit cards but use one for purchasing goods just in care of situations like this .

so sorry to hear this - and usually in these cases, unfortunately it is the customers who lose out the most .... however, as Rose54 says, depending how you paid the deposit you may have some possibility of a refund. xx

Doesn’t always work like that ... your a creditor in a long line of creditors unless you have a propriety claim but without seeing contract I wouldn’t know .. let’s hope the company has money to cover all of its debts etc

Sooo sorry Jackiejack123☹️

It’s terrible to be in your position...I hope and pray 🙏 that all works out well.

Sorry, as others have said there'll be a line of creditors and the tax man heads the queue and gets paid first. Remaining assets are evaluated and if there's insufficient money to pay everyone it's decided on a percentage basis. Citizens advice should be able to tell you how to lodge your claim.

I don't know the rules on paying staff or where they stand in the line of claimants.

Personally, I wouldn't go spending more on a solicitor. Lodge your claim and I hope you get your money back.

I'm sorry to say I agree completely with 06hollyberry, you'll be in a long line of creditors. The tax man will be first, then any utility companies and building rent /mortgage owed, then any businesses he owes money to for materials etc. All businesses will come first, then the staff will be paid what they're owed for their wages. Last of all who will be reimbursed for deposits paid etc., will be his customers. If there isn't enough to pay everyone they will pay a percentage. You must put a claim in, otherwise you will not be paid anything back and you need to get it in asap! If you're near the end of claimants you stand to hardly get anything,or maybe you'll get nothing at all.

Has he gone bankrupt or just folding up the business do you know? Either way the rules for payment are the same. Good luck, hope you can manage to get something back. From now on never ever pay any deposit with cash. If you haven't got one, get a credit card and use that to pay deposits and balances with instead of cash. You can always pay the cash onto the credit card straight away so the money is there when the bill is due to be paid. You have much more protection with a credit card. Sending hugs (( ))
