Hi all, it’s been a while since I checked in as life has been busy and thankfully pretty manageable for the last few weeks.

I think someone was looking for help about using Fentanyl. There was something in my junk mail, but nothing here. If you still need help please respond to this post.

In general it is great and has changed my life. I’m still taking paracetamol, and the odd cocodamol with the patches though.

Fentanyl was, for me, a nightmare. Great for pain control but psychologically the 4 months I was on it were the worst of my life.

Funny how we all differ in our response to it. It's a hugely powerful drug with serious addiction implications.

I agree with others fentanyl should only be a last resort- it is really a post operation drug for severe pain and it is very addictive,, once you go there and your pain returns wher do you go next? It does have severe side effects-what had you tried before this? Are you taking over the counter co cod and paracetamol? did you know co cod have paracetamol in them? Have regular liver profile blood tests I cant imagine what state it might be in...

Thank you for your concern.

I’m well aware of the fact that cocodamol contains paracetamol. I take one of each. My liver and kidney profiles are both very healthy. I drink plenty of water and take a very great deal of care to ensure that my body flushes out the toxins.

I’m only alive now because of Fentanyl. Last year was horrendous, by far the worst since this started several years ago.

I try and do a few days without the patches every few months and seriously try to go a day without every week if I can manage it.

My GP and specialists are thankful and honest about the difference it makes educating oneself about this condition. It does make a difference.

I’m no quitter, therefore I will use every tool at my disposal to allow me to live my life with at least some degree of enjoyment.

Hello, FibroGirlUK,

SO glad, to read that someone is busy and managing their life "at the moment ". Please us know if this continues.

You mentioned Fentanyl, so perhaps this is helping you in managing your mood?

I was on 75mg Fentanyl patches a few years ago, and at the beginning I felt the same as you, but after a while (not sure, maybe about a year) I started having problems.

I was supposed to change the patches every 3 days, but, I found that I had to change them every 2 days, and then every day. The Doctor's thought that was because I became addicted, but to me it was because the pain just got worse and worse. Eventually they decided to change to Morphine tablets. First they tried Oxycontin, but the 2 weeks after change over were the worst of my life, (I had amongst other things included terrible pain, cramps, nausea and diarrhoea) I think that was because the dosage they suggested was not equivalent to the patches.

Anyway, I was eventually put on 20mg of Morphine sulphate and 60mg of MST twice daily and that eventually put me on a even keel. Last year they changed them to Zomorph as these are cheaper.

I still have pain, but it's manageable, cramps and fatigue but that's the Fibromyalgia I presume.

So all I'm saying is to be wary, or you could have the same problems I had.

But having said all that GOOD LUCK!!! and keep managing, but don't overdo it.

Take care.

Hi Rob

I have incredibly sensitive skin. I started off with Butrans patches that I begged the Dr not to give me as I had already had experience. Suppurating sore later we went onto Fentanyl.

m

Mezolar Matrix are useless patches. Durogesic are great.

I would not be alive without these patches.

Everyone is different.

Don’t do it there evil!! I have just come off them after been on them for years . Yes it did help pain but it also caused pain. I ended up with OIH basically the caused my muscles to stiffen which caused hourendous pain . And weaning off them the withdrawal symptoms are horrendous . I’m taking trumic with black pepper and magnesium which after 2/3 weeks help with the pain. I wish I had never used fentyal it’s very addictive as someone has said it was every 3 day but then it’s not working as well so you go to 2days then every day desperately want it changed . My muscles are knackered because of it but you have to make you own mind up. But if I had my chance again I would start with trumic magnesium ext to see how got on . Good luck in whatever you do take care xx
