Getting anxious waiting for results

I had a blood test last Friday morning at my surgery. The nurses in the rheumatology dept at RNHRD (Mineral Hospital) in Bath were unable to do this at my last appointment as they couldn't get a vein (I'm not good with needles)!

Anyway, the nurse that I always ask for at my surgery said she'd mark them as urgent and I'd also given her the labels that the hospital gave me to stick on my blood sample.

I was told my results should be back by Monday of this week. Well, I've phoned the surgery every day and they're not back. The receptionist I spoke to at the surgery today said they'd probably gone to rheumatology. So I phoned the hospital in Bath and got put through to a secretary's answerphone. I left all my details and confirmed it was fine to leave me a voicemail (I work and can't take calls on my mobile and am also customer facing). No-one has called me.

I'm feeling annoyed and worried now as it's taking too long. Worried that they've misplaced them maybe.

The test was for vitamin B12, vitamin D and folic acid. I'm planning on phoning the surgery again tomorrow. Should I ask to speak to a manager (Practice Manager) to get them to chase it up and let me know what's going on? Or am I just stressing unnecessarily? I just want to know my results and take action if deficient or low (it'll probably take a week or two to see my own GP if I need to)!

Thanks for reading 😀

If your calls go unreturned, and there is no news by the end of the week then you can phone PALS at the hospital (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) they can chase things up for you. Hope you get your results soon

I suppose even if they are marked urgent there could be alot of urgent ones so the samples could be stacked up. If you haven't heard by next Monday I would start a serious chasing up just in case as you say they have been misplaced. If the results show you are deficient the GP might just be able to write you a prescription rather than you having to see them. Do hope you get the results soon.x
