Severe scalp itching

I have had fibromyalgia. For years and felt I had it pretty much under control..For the last year and a half I have been suffering from a severe itchy scalp with burning and soreness behind ears and crown...Has anyone else with fibromyalgia experienced this? I have tried various shampoos etc..at present awaiting an appt. with a dermatologist (they are very scarce in this area so am on a waiting list). Has anyone else experienced this? If so what did you try to relieve the itching. Looking forward to hearing from fellow fibro sufferers!

I had this a few weeks ago now my scalp is very tender to touch. I don't know if scratching my head hard has done this or the fibro. xx

Yes scratching your head too hard would make your scalp to be sore.

Hi Oreenvlerie I suffer from this too, i believe its seboric psoriasis not sure I've spelled that correctly. I use ginger shampoo from body shop and it keeps it under control most of the time and doesn't interfere with hair colour. Not sure if you have Body shop where you are. Hope you can get hold if some.

Hi I've been getting a lot of itchy crumbly scalp problems combined with finger and toenail problems. I bought a tube of inexpensive aloe vera gel and massaged it into my scalp. It does give some relief. It also has a nice cooling effect. Hope this helps X

The itching drives me mad, too. Can be my head, I often find areas of my scalp that hurt as if they're bruised ( no bruising though) Then it all disappears and randomly starts again. Last night it was my feet that were itching, couldn't get to sleep. Only thing I could think to do was spray them with magnesium oil, then had to wash that off as I can't bear the feeling if anything oily on my skin. Not sure magnesium oil would work on a scalp, though.

I had same problem, then I got some hemp shampoo and body wash. Itching not totally gone but much much better also condition of my hair greatly improved.I think with continued use the itching will totally go.

I feel as though I have creepy crawlies all over me when the itching is bad. I take an antihistamine as it's the only thing that works.

Yes, I get this too!! I didn't realise this was part of my fibromylgia, a while ago I had to get anti biotics from the Dr as it was quite bad, they did clear it up but I have had a few new sore spots on my scalp, it is very tender, I had just been diagnosed with Fibro and I didn't link the 2 ( neither did the Dr) I will defo go back to the Dr to let them know this is another symptom, along with severe heartburn :(

Yes with the itching scape back and all over. I use a back scratcher and finally give in to taking a Benadryl. I always thought the itchy back thing was something my sister and I inherited from my mom but later saw people posting on a fibromyalgia support group site and found out this was also a fibro thing, all this itching.

Ditto to all you said about severe iching! Had it for 3 months, given antihistamines and cream from Doctor who said on 2 visits that he could see nothing, although the itching was terrible. On the 2nd visit I said"Could this be because of Fibromyalgia?" But I got a blank long and stronger Antihistamine! Nothing works. Wish I could tell you of an answer. Will check your replies from others.

Hi OreenValerie, I've had the itchy scalp on and off. Euricin do a good cream for itchy scalp, Boots used to. But if yours is severe then they can prescribe something like Betnap ( I think that's the name) it used to be Betnovate. I find stress makes it worse. Take care. x
