Sinusitis third time in 18 months, been on Anti-biotics again, been told I need a Steroid nasal spray and to use it all the time (have to see how that goes) Dr said to put a warm mug of tea or whatever and hold it against your blocked sinuses on your face, the warmth loosens off the mucas and helps inflammation, I found it does help especially when its a due to rain, as my Rhinitis is usually bad in August with the rain, also my ears feeling little less painful, Anti-biotics helped, drink plenty of water when your suffering from Sinusitis, and chilli in food helps clear out blockages, also two pillows in bed are good one thin one under a thicker one, keep windows closed if near a road, and put a cold fan on the room for an hour before bedtime. Hope this helps.

I also found the nasal salt rinses good but rather yucky. I got a feeling off from my GP as I hate antibiotics and we are always been told to try and do without them. Had the most terrible sinusitis for months and kept on trying to clear it myself but when I started to feel really ill had to go to GP. Felt such a fool as within a week on the medication it had cleared up. I also have perennial rhinitis and am sick of people thinking I have a cold and moving away from me. I feel like hanging a sign around my neck saying I am not infectious.x

Hi have a dear friend with rhinitis wh wants to stay away from anti biotics and steroids. So I asked a homeopathic friend for ideas. She suggested using one to two drops of silver codiall twice a day. I think this is a natural anti biotic. Also to use a good quality pink Himilayan salt mixed with pure water and basically snort with small squeeze bottle apparently this has cleanining and antiseptic qualities and helps close pores to help heal.

Interestingly she said there is a link to gut health and a good diet and recommended MSM powder. This is something I do use daily to promote gut health and as building block for healthy tissue growth

Not had Rhinitis fortunately but ideas for your toolbag!

I was told the steriod based nasal spray prevents Sinusitis, Rhinitis is under control normally with a anti-histimine tablet at night Citrzine Hydracloride one. Acidophililus is the best for your gut. I have asthma as well so need my steroid inhaler. I was using Sterimar nasal spray the salt infusion and it was working perfectly ok until I got this virus. We are sinking in viruses Im retired and dont go out much, but live on the outskirts of a city, so unfortunately more people, viruses are airborne, so its like swimming against the tide sometimes in my case. I need to increase my fitness levels which I intend to do once im better. Thanks for your tips, excuse my spelling Im so blocked up, cant think straight. Big black clouds looming, August is a nightmare.

I have just bought a saline squeeze nasal cleanser online. Clears out the sinuses! Finding it quite good, reusable and not expensive.

Thank you for the advice, I'm currently in the second week of a nasty bout of sinusitis. My GP has given me a nasal spray but it isn't helping at all. I think I need antibiotics. I haven't been this bad for years and I'm trying everything possible to help clear it. My sense of smell has gone completely and my head feels as though it's stuffed with cotton wool.

Try a 10 min walk if you can manage it the fresh air helps, drink lots, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and take antibiotics, Ive been using the mug of tea warm and rolling it over my face, it loosens the mucas, im in week 2 of sinusitis and im noticing it moving a bit out of my head, sleep a bit more if you possibly can, and long term use an anti-histimine they really give you a decent sleep, non drowsy although you may feel a little groggy for a couple of hrs in the morning, but we do already with the Sinusitis, my sense of smell went, but this week I cooked a home made pork curry and rice adding chilli, also a veggie stirfry and rice adding chilli, its really helped. Must be hones im a little sceptical on the steroid based nasal spray, all it does drs say is prevent you getting sinusitus, mine should arrive in a few days time, see once you have had a virus or infection, you have to get over that first, then carry on with the nasal spray as a preventitive, none of us can avoid viruses, dam things are everywhere. Ive also heard if in the longer term you can increase your exercise it makes you fitter and less likely to get respiratory viruses or infections. My Dr said swimming which I wouldnt do, but I do walk 10-15 mins virtually every single day, because of my fallen arches I cant do anymore, but Im hoping to use my exercise bike again to supplement it. We will get there in the end, nothing in this life lasts forever, prevention is better than cure, so they say. Good luck
