Hi I have suffered with S F P N now for the past 12 years and like most of us have constantly searched for any up to date information on reaserch to see if there is any new medication that may help with the pain.

My condition has been caused through type 2 diabetes. I have reduced my weight from 21 stone down to 15 stone and excersise daily but my symptoms are getting worse. Does anyone have any new information on meds either medical or herbal that works ?

Many thanks in advance .

Paul

Hi there P1960 welcome to our forum it's good to meet you. I am not sure what you mean by S F P N would you care to explain a little more please? Do you suffer with Fibro at all ?

I want to congratulate you on your magnificent weight loss well done you that's great. I know many of us suffer with weight problems and trying to reduce it. For many medication is their biggest down fall so i am sure we can all appreciate your achievement in loosing the weight.

You may like to take a peek at our mother site it has a wealth of information you may find helpful in your above question. fmauk.org Please feel welcomed and I hope we see on the forum more often and keep up the good work xx

Hello Paul

Welcome to our lovely forum :)

Please do correct me if I am wrong but is SFPN Small-fiber polyneuropathy (SFPN), a common underlying diagnosis in syndromes involving unexplained chronic pain and multi-system symptoms?

Background

Syndromes involving unexplained chronic widespread pain (CWP) and multi-system symptoms are common, with 1-5% prevalence for fibromyalgia alone.

From the little I have read it does sound as though the symptoms are very much like the symptoms of Fibromyalgia.

What is it that you struggle with the most? Is it the widespread pain?

What medications have you already tried?

I have Fibro, ME, osteoarthritis and Hypermobility Syndrome and suffer with widespread pain 24/7.

I do take quite a few strong pain meds, but other things that I have found that helps are:

Magnesium Oil Spray which can be bought in Holland & Barrett and online.

Deep Freeze Spray, patches and gels - Boots the Chemist sell these.

I also take extra iron as I am anaemic and I take B12 Vitamins as my latest bloods show I am low in B12.

I hope that some of this may help?

Wishing you a peaceful day

Lu x

Hello

Many thanks for your kind reply to my post. Yes SFPN is what I have been diagnosed with now for some time . I have been on lots of different meds half of which I don't know how to spell or even pronownce lol.

I am on two lots of Tramadol , Nortrypteline , Pregabalin, which help but I'm afraid the pain is getting worse and has now spread further through out my body . I am constantly looking on line to see if there is any updates on treatment and pain relief but there is nothing really from 2012 -15 .

I was just wanting to find out if anyone else had any luck with any other meds .

Cheers

Paul

Hi P1960

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance.

*The US National Library of Medicine - National Institutes of Health suggests:

*Some patients may benefit from cool or warm soaks, soft socks, and foot tents. Other treatments such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, acupuncture, physical therapy and massage also have been used, but have not been examined in clinical trials for small fiber neuropathic pain

I was wondering if you have ever tried a TENS Machine for this my friend? I have pasted you a link below to the NHS Choices cache:

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken
