Trying a new diet

minesawhiskey profile image
15 Replies

Came across an article in the dailymail online dated 16th July 2012 about a gp who gave up eating many fruit, veg and nuts to cure her aches and pains, based on low oxalate theory. I am trying a new diet but working out allowable meals was tricky so have just ordered a specific gluten free low oxalate recipe book. Might as well try something new. It's worked for others so why not me! Has anybody else tried this diet?

Hi, I do need to lose a bit of weight but going gluten free and low oxalate is definately my next goal. Have had some positive results with my gluten free week, spoilt it in middle by having Lea &Perrins Worcestershire sauce which has malt vinegar in it. We may as well keep trying different things. Am hoping the more energy I have I'll lose a bit of weight naturally, good luck on your mission!

It looks as If the diet is gluten free, low oxalate and paleo. Heard of the paleo diet but hasn't researched it yet.

Paleo seems a bit at odds with low oxalate for some things. Like nuts are high in oxalate and to be avoided if following low oxalate diet. Can't wait for my new cookbook, there must be something tasty left to eat!!

Hi, according to my googling malt vinegar is a risk if you need to be gluten free!

Malt vinegar is undistilled and made from barley, I think is the main reason

Hi, well I tried a very strict gluten free diet for about 6 weeks. It ended up I could feel just as rough as when not restricting my diet, so I'm back just trying to eat healthily. Gluten free also turned out to be about 4 or 5 times more expensive than my normal shop.

I still can feel ill/rough after eating virtually anything so I don't know what the problem is, yesterday I seemed to have a bad reaction to I think the seeds on some "healthy" bread. I like the recipes in the gluten free low oxalate cook book I bought though. I did the Kentucky bourbon chicken recipe in the slow cooker and it was amazing. I'm missing lunch today because I'm feeling a bit better and don't want to risk spoiling it by eating something. Overall I just don't know what is wrong.

Thank you for asking!

Hi All

Having been on weight gaining meds for many years ( they worked by the way!!) of course I didn't want nor need the weight gain but that's side effect went ballistic on me and say yay let what ever she does restrict her.... pain pain and more pain

Anyway... I have been yoyo dieting for many years... they are going to send me to a dietician ( hahaha at my age lol) I have also started studying to become a weightloss consultant.... anyway...

I have looked at the OMG I can't remember!!!! Oh yes got it now after sitting here for a while flipping brain fogging!! Intermittent Fasting. No good for those who still want children ( lots of research said no) and I have been at that stage and passed it so no bother to me.... basically what is it!

You have your healthy eating plan but only restrict the hours you eat... you can exercise if you want ( or can??) and you eventually reduce your window down. As when we start sleeping our body starts burning fat and using up the body sugars etc and this happens every night until we start to eat in the am again. But if you say give yourself an eight hour window for a few days.

Eat between 10 and 6pm or 12 and 8 pm

Then a feed days later

10 and 5 pm or 11 and 5 get the drift

And reduce to a 6 hour window

And in that time you eat breakfast lunch and dinner but very healthy low sugar foods as you still want your body to break down what it has.

Like all healthy eating regime you feel a little yucky to start with lol

So tempted to try that but lots can be seen on you tube... can I put that?

Also.....

The other was juicing with a liquidiser thingymabob... I don't want to advertise that... but also to include healthy eating! I took a few photos yesterday from a book for juicing recipes for Fibromyalgia and people say this is fantastic!

Anyway ramble over with and not sure which to try lol

Healing slimming thoughts x
