Good evening Liverbelly myself and many suffer with that type of pain unfortunately for some it can last for days even weeks. For me it actually cause bad breathing problems due to the pain. If it as not settled down in the next day or so or gets any worse in the mean time may i suggest your doctor to get it checked out. It could very well be costochondritis.

Costochondritis, also known as Tietze's syndrome, is an inflammation of the cartilage in the rib cage. The condition usually affects the cartilage where the upper ribs attach to the breastbone (sternum), an area known as the costosternal joint. Chest pain caused by costochondritis can range from mild to severe

Hi Liverbelly I'm sorry you are experiencing this awful symptom my friend, it's very uncomfortable and i get very bad sometimes & hurts to breath & so tender all around this area.

Fibro sufferers quite often suffer from a condition called Costochondritis, I'm not a doctor but the symptoms you mention sounds very much like it. It can be excruciatingly painful and some ppl.go to hospital if it's severe. You really should go to gp or give them a call to see if there is any other treatment you can have for the pain.

Also if you look to the right of your screen under "Related Posts" You will see a number of blue links to go to & have a read of older posts by members, you may find useful.

Always let your gp know if you are having any kinds of chest pain because it could always be something more serious and only your doctor would know this by examining you. I hope you soon get relief & do let us know how you get on.

Luv Jan xx

Yes it is a most unpleasant feeling. I have costo chondritis as the main part of my fibro and am so sore around that area that I haven't been able to wear a bra for about 6 years even a tight vest can be too painful. I would say though that if this is something new for you I would certainly go and have a word with your GP as any pain around the chest area should be investigated as it is something we shouldn't assume is fibro related. I do hope it eases soon.x

Thank you all for the replies! This makes me feel better. I just read about Costochondritis and it sounds just about right to what I'm experiencing. This particular symptom makes me feel really uncomfortable, almost claustrophobic because of the squeezing sensation. Just one more fun fibro symptom! It really does help having these replies. I really appreciate your help !

Hi, As others have suggested, it certaily sounds like coso chondritis and it is known to accompany fibro :(

Sometimes though, knowing what it is can be good, because then we can stop imagining the worst!

A hot water bottle and getting the angle right with pillows is my remedy, in fact I often sleep sat up.

I get a similar thing which I thought was costochondritis (still do) but when I saw gp he said its pulled muscle from using crutches. The pain is not the same all the time and can sometimes be severe and spread right around my chest and back. It feel like it starts in my shoulder blade and ends up feeling like my whole left side upper body is being crushed. My ribs are really tender to touch. It has got so bad I have been unable to move and screamed in pain. Laying down seems to make it worse. Gentle hugs. Joolz.x

Hi Liverbelly

I am so genuinely sorry to read this my friend and as the others says it does sound a great deal like Costochondritis to me also. However, when anything affects the chest area it is best to have it checked out just to have other medical conditions ruled out of the equation. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken
