Hi Everyone, Sorry not been on for a while just feel isolated. Just won I’ve had severe pain under my ribs for months. Doctor scared me said it might be lung cancer. Chest X-ray came back clear so did bloods. Does anyone else have these pains. Hope everyone is coping with this nightmare called fibromyalgia xxx

hi

yeah chest pains are my main issue at the moment, started off they said it was smoking, then after I stopped that, it was a chest infection (think it was temporarily) after that cleared it was maybe arthritis, and they checked bloods, they never mentioned lung cancer thankfully - they did do xrays, so assume that ruled that out anyway

now they have ruled out arthritis, and there is some anomaly in my liver function test so tis ultrasounds which is fun, small hint, the technicians do not like the "is it a boy" jokes if you are male......

sorry realized I don't have a point, but yes I get them, they are scary, very painful and can last varying amounts of time.

you are not alone and don't need to be isolated, the people here are great and can really help relieve the mental stress if not the physical ones so feel safe and loved here.

best of luck.

Thank you for that very much. What could it be?. The pains are still here . Is it fibromyalgia? Is it something else?. The doctor scared me by saying “ I’m very concerned very concerned. So of course thought the worst!. But my god the pain is so bad. Loved your reply 😃😃😃😃. Xx

My endo told me that rib pain is common in Vitamin D deficiency disorders. It may be osteochondritis inflammation of the intercostal muscles which is very, very painful. Those are the possible alternatives. I am sure if it was anything sinister drs would have detected that by now. TRy not to worry too much. Hugs

I've had costochondritis several several years ago about three different times but it seemed to go away after 1-3 weeks each time. Does it hurt pressing in around your breastbone and sternum? I've never had it since my fibro became fullblown about 9 years ago but here is an article about costochondritis and fibro.

Hi Yes it does hurt when you press or someone touches the sternum. I am unable to wear a bra, too much info!! Can be a sign and symptom of vitamin d deficiency so important to get a baseline level done. I also have osteoporosis which can be a consequence of a low Vit D. Sorry to be a wet blanket but think it best to tell people so they can do something to avoid the possible complications. Take care Hugs xxx

I get pains in my ribs but usually just below the armpit I have problems with my spine which could account for some of it but it's all part of our wonderful friend (NOT) fibro... Don't be isolated we are all here to talk too moan and rant at depending on your mood lol oh and try and keep your sense of humour somewhere you can find it it really helps at times 😁 xx

I have pain under my rib cage in the middle, it is total agony. Dr said is it not anxiety 🤬 no it’s not !! anyway she has upped my lansoprazole but it’s hit and miss. I hope it eases for you.

Lansoprazole is a PPI and can stop nutrients being absorbed giving you nutritional deficiencies. Its only meant to be prescribed short term as well due to its side effects my GP told me. A lot of people swear by apple cider vinegar to maintain good gut health. I have never tried it. Hope that info is useful. xx

And probiotics! These tummy meds can lead to osteoporosis so beware. Tummy probs are so common n few drs will ever mention the gut biome and whether the good n bad gut bacteria are balanced. They will spend on pharmaceutical meds because nice say they work, but whether they work for you and without damaging you is another matter.

to be honest I'm sick fed up of taking pills, I do have a bottle of apple cider in. I really think my Drs just play at being Drs I don't go to them a lot because I don't have much faith in them (looking to change).

I get pains between my ribs & below my rib cage quite often, GP sent me for an x-ray, but all clear, I mentioned it to the rheumy at Guy's hospital & she said it was a common fibro pain. Hope you feel more comfortable soon.

I had to reply to this. I have not yet been diagnosed with Fibro, my doc thinks it is and is referring me. My pain started 5 yrs ago around my ribs and moved to different parts. Had a lot of tests, X-rays and nothing so put on co codamol, didn’t work so put on buprenorphine and co codamol, sort of worked for a bit while I worked my way up to full doses of both. Has been pretty much controlled on this until last 2 months, rib pain back, all over muscle pain, elbow pain hand pain etc. So now suddenly Fibro. I have been trying to come off pregabalin so on that, doc said to start Gabapentin, upped my bup and full doses of co Codamol. Rib pain is the worst as the pain in trying to breathe is hell and feels like my asthma is kicking off so now permanently out of breath!! I’m now thinking to try to come off most and start CBD. Feeling for you

Sorry to hear this. I am very surprised that you are taking co codamol when you have asthma . I am not allowed any opiates due to asthma. Take care xxx
