Ribs and back pain

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing terrible pains in my ribs and back it also is affecting my neck and head. It feels as though I've been kicked about. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, ME and sleep appnea.

I've heard this is common so I need to know how you all deal with this as I can't get any relief from it.

Regards

Ali

Hi there aliboo, sorry you are having such a rough time at the moment. All the symptoms you speak of are unfortunately pretty much par for the course with fibromyalgia. Are you seeing a doctor or pain management specialist at the moment because I think with what you are going through you need to seek some proper medical advice. I'm sorry not to be of more help, maybe someone else will come along with some more advice.

Sending positive healing vibes your way :-)

HI, I was told i have fibro by rheumatologist, 4 1/2 yrs ago,

But now G.P reckons Ive moved on to R.A, and possible C.O.P.D which is to do with lungs.

This might the reason you feel the way you do at moment, as i have had this for weeks, with varying amounts of pain, (i used to smoke). Hope this helps

Hi that is something unfortunately I have all the time to a greater or lesser degree. The rib and back pain being the worse. I just said to my OH this morning that I felt that I had been kicked about by a gang of thugs. When you are having one of those bad bouts it is best to try and keep yourself warm but don't wear any clothing that is tight as that seems to make the rib problem worse. If it is very bad I take a higher dose of my Pregablin (I have got the permission of the Pain Clinic to do that) and then unfortunately have to put up the side effect of feeling very spaced out but it worth it if the pain is terrible. I also have a good long soak in a warm bath with some Epsom Salts in. Some people find that they get relief from one of the pain gels but I find that during those times my ribs and surrounding skin is so tender rubbing the cream or gel in just makes them worse. If this is prolonged and getting much worse I think you will need to have a word with your GP. Soft hugsx

Hi aliboo

I am so sorry to read that you are suffering in this way, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to these issues. I always say to members that we are unique individuals, and therefore we all react differently to both our medications and our illnesses. Although most of us (at some point) will encounter all over pain, I think that we experience different pains in differing part of the body at different times.

I am not a doctor so I cannot say for sure that all of your pain all of the time is Fibro? It always helps to discuss new or persistent pains with your GP or Medical Specialist just to keep them up to date, and have any other conditions ruled out. I have pasted you a link below to our mother site, FibroAction, in case you have not seen this? It has loads of useful Fibro information on the site:

fibroaction.org

I sincerely hope that you can find the answers that you so desperately desire and deserve.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Thank you very much for you info and kind thoughts. I have an appointment with my GP in a weeks time.

TY again

Ali,

sorry you are suffering as you are, I don't have sleep apnea, but have had Fibro for 20 years, at first it was very difficult to cope with popping pills staying in bed or lying on the settee, then I decided I need to push myself as I did not want that to be the sum total of my life. It is difficult, but I weaned myself off pain meds as I still felt severe pain & always groggy feeling, I tried small walks round the block able bodied can do in 5 minutes took me a half hour as very slow & stopping too, then got to a swimming pool & just walked up & down there, the fresh air & bit of exercise did make what sleep I got about 1 to 2 hours of sleep was at least quality sleep which did slightly help my fibro pain. Reason I stopped meds I felt I was putting in toxins which could well cause other problems, I know on my bad days that I can manage with paracetamol, I now go to 3 aqua exercise classes a week & swim too. Being in the water supports your body & you're not aware of the pain temporary but a welcome relief. I hope this is of some help to you Ali. Take care, hugs.

Hi Sweetheart, I understand totally. I suffered along time with the neck, head and shoulders pain...couldn't even lay me head on a pillow. Finally went to a pain clinic and they gave me Opana ER and it has made my pain much more bearable. As for the back and ribs I get that too. The meds help with most of the symptoms. I now am having esophagus trouble but it's because I've always had stomach problems. Fibro sure doesn't help on that front but I go for tests September 10th. Hope this helps you honey!!! Hang in there. xxx Mitzi

I too have oesophagus problems, feels like there is something stuck in my throat at times and fluid trickling to my nose when I'm laid down, giving me a blocked and runny nose (!yuk)
