Hi. I have just came to this group. I suffer with fibromyalgia. I would be grateful for advice as i fell iam not really getting much help or support from my doctor. Iam only on 1 tablet for my condition and the pain is so bad. Ive also attended the pain clinic, but that was'nt what i expected either.

Hi barb70

Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I have pasted you a link to our mother site, FMA UK which hosts loads of useful Fibro information:

fmauk.org/

On the FMA UK they have a list of support groups where you could talk to like minded people and maybe get some ammunition to take with you to your GP? I have also pasted you a link for this page as well:

fmauk.org/contactsmenu/supp...

If your pain gets too much for you I was wondering if you have a 'walk-in centre' in your area that you could pay a visit too? As they may be able to help with your pain. If it is very severe they can make referrals on your behalf to hospitals.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Welcome to the site. You will get support here...wishing you peace!

Hello and welcome barb! I would start by saying this wonderful bunch of nutters on this site, who are incredibly friendly, and share huge years of knowledge between them.

If you want a face to face meeting then most areas will have a casual Fibro group that will meet up each month. I have one in Frimley and one in Guildford near me.

You should find one in Ken's link or put your area on hear and ask!

Best wishes Patrick

Sorry Barb, I know the barracks! But I don't know of any groups. I would write or call the secretary of the Rhuemetologists at your local hospital via the switchboard. They should know of any local group. The groups are often started up by the hospital then let go to run on their own.

Best wishes

Hi I was not too impressed with my pain clinic - I might as well walked into the bank for help and advice - it took an hour to get there , and then it took her an hour to say "we don't deal with fibromyalgia- we only deal with - chronic fatigue!" - good luck x

Hi barb70 welcome to the forum ;-) I'm sure you will love it like we all do. I probably can't add anymore than Admin, as you will get all the advice & guidance you need from the links & you will get support & guidance here from all the members that understand what you are having to deal with on a daily basis with Fibro.

From my own experiences, bearing my advice to you would be, maybe get a different doctor because there is a lot of things they can give you to help the pain, I can assure you, its not 1 tablet a day. Some doctors just are not clued up about Fibro at all and you need a doctor that understands it. Maybe there is another doctor in your surgery that already has Fibro patients !

I have also been to pain clinic and got nothing whatsoever from it, although I know this is not the same for everyone and I think different areas work in a slightly different way.

I would ask your doctor if he can refer you to a Rheumatologist, you are quite within your rights to request this. They can recommend medication to your doctor, which most of the time they will adhere to. Anyway that's all I can think of, so hope it helps & let us know how you get on.

luv Jan x

Hi Jan. Thank you for your advice, its means alot to get advice from someone who will know what its like to live with this condition. I have asked my doctor a few times to refer me to places, but he keeps saying its very unlikely they will find out if it is nerve damage. I also asked for a pain killer and he said , what for it. It would not help my pain. He even took me off my tablet for my over active bladder, saying it gives memory loss. well what does fibromyalgia do to .Gives you memory loss. This is the secound doctor i have moved 2 and he is worse than the last ones. He is the only doctor in his practice. I just dont trust doctors. Iam not even comfortable going to see him or any doctor now. As i fell they dont believe me how bad the pain really is. love barb

Oh bless you, i really have been there & I've even got referred to specialist and they have been just as pants, if not worse. In hind site, now I would always take someone with me for moral support, hopefully someone that is not unwell & vunerable & able to be assertive & insist to the doctor that you are not happy with the treatment you are getting and you want to see a specialist, they can't refuse, its your right to be able to access this facility via your doctors referal. I'm not saying its easy but there are some very good doctors still & I am very lucky to have a lady doctor & she totally understands fibro & shes lovely. I wish this for you my friend ;-)

luv Jan x
