Sleep deprived EEG

Hello everone, I hope you are all happy in mind and spirit if not physically. I have recently had an MRI test and an EEG test in February because I have been experiencing weird symptoms generally unrelated to fibromyalgia and hypothyroidism. I haven't received any results as yet for them (apparently it can take 6 weeks) however I have received a letter the other day asking me to attend Ipswich hospital for a sleep deprived EEG. Does anyone have any experience of this test and does the hospital only offer it IF something has shown up on the ordinary original EEG? Is it general hospital policy to wait the full 6 weeks to send the patients test results (for the MRI and ordinary original EEG?)

I also have to have a chest xray today and more blood tests next week including another thyroid one. Thank you in advance for any help you may offer, Mandy :-)

My OH had to have the sleep deprived one as he was experiencing strange sensations in his head . You are wired up to a machine and in his case it was testing his brainwaves etc as supposedly results are clearer if the body hasn't rested on 24 hours. There was some strobe lighting as well. They aren't bothered whether you go to sleep or not it does not matter for the tests. He said they were extremely kind and nothing hurts at all he just ended up with gel on him. He wishes you the best of luck I bet you are glad the MRI bit is over he had his straight afterwards and that was the bit he was worried about as he is claustrophobic. In the NHS these results can take some time. They might be holding off discussing results with you because of these further tests they might look at them as whole to give them a better picture of what is going on.

Let us know how you get on.x

Hi there

I am sorry but I do not have any experience of this. I had to do a Stress ECG which luckily was clear.

Obviously yours is the complete opposite.

Rosewine has given you some wonderful information which I hope puts your mind at rest?

I just wanted to wish you lots of luck with your results and your tests, and very much hope they all come back clear for you.

Wishing you less pain and more peace

Lu x

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are experiencing these problems, and I sincerely hope that your tests go well for you. I have not undergone this particular sleep test, I had a different one as I suffer with sleep apnea.

All my hopes and dreams for you
