In the last 10 days I've had this horrendous pain that's started in both my knees at the same time, both my elbows at the same time and all my toes hurt and make cracking sounds when I walk. The knees are the worst and they haven't stopped hurting at all, even with morphine and versati patches on them plus all the other tablets tramadol etc nothing touching it. The pain fluctuates between feeling like I've been bashed across my knees with a baseball bat to burning internally like someone's poured petrol on and set me on fire. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what if anything has helped?
Thanks guys xxxx

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are experiencing such horrific pain with this, and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution to these issues. I am not a doctor so I cannot say for whether it is Fibro related or something else. However, I have similar pain to this and I have arthritis.
I do not know if you have been diagnosed with this condition at all, but it may be worth discussing it with your GP or Medical Specialist just to get other conditions ruled out of the equation? I have pasted below for you a link to the NHS Choices cache on arthritis, so I genuinely hope that you find this useful:
Thank you Ken, I've not been diagnosed but have a gp appointment on Monday so hopefully I'll be referred somewhere to get tested because it's starting to drive me crazy.
I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and my knees at times feel like they are 4times there normal size and the pain feels like there being twisted, I also suffer with elbow pain, unfortunately thus far I haven't found anything that helps, except maybe heat I have a microwavable beanbag you activate by putting in microwave for few minutes then you can place it anywhere there's pain, when I have the pain in knees I find it difficult to stand,
hope this helps, best person to see is rheumatologist
I've had problems with my knees on and off for yrs. I have had tendinitis in my knees quite a lot and wondering if that might be your problem? I find if I press the side of my kneecap it can be very painful. One my first fibro symptoms was pains in both my knees and swelling. I find voltarol gel rubbed into my kneecaps when they have been really bad in the past to be helpful. I found walking about too much made the pain worse. I really recommend some memory foam trainers as they help to cushion my knees. You could also try rubbing the gel on your knees and putting an soft heated wheat bag on your knees with a towel in between. I find heat helps the cream absorb as I do this with my neck as I have arthritus in it and do it all the time. As for elbows I find putting on the gel and putting on tubigrip bandage on my arm over the elbows really helps with the burning pain as I get this a lot in my arms.
Yes I suffer with the same thing. My ankles and toes hurt and my knees crunch when I stand up and try to walk. This morning I got out of bed and could hardly stand I have to try it a couple if times before I manage it. I do exercies for my ankles and toes. I gently lift them up and hold for a minute if you can then lower them and gently rotate my ankles clockwise also I squeeze my toes up and hold them still. Only do these if they do not hurt you when trying them as my GP,told me never do exercises when things hurt. Also I go to the hydro, pool at the hospital and I have exercises to in the pool which are very good. Good luck let me know how you go on please.
My left knee has started to hurt and ache, whether standing, sitting, laying down. I have some Fenbid gel but this doesn't touch the pain especially when I'm trying to get comfy in bed, now can't bear my knees touching. I have found using an extra pillow between my knees is helping at the moment so might be worth a try. I have started on pregablin recently but the pain and munchies seem worse, got a doctor's appointment in the morning as i have now been off work nearly 6 months and dont feel my fibo has improved enough for me to go back to work as a care assisant. I am in constant pain with my shoulders, back, bottom, legs and feet, sometimes even my hands. I try to do pilates but know to do everything for my ability and what my body allows me to do. Everything comes down to pace and when I hit the tiredness wall I crash! Sorry, that went on a bit, lol
Hi there, I have been off since May as the pain after working 4 days was unbearable and I hobbled into my doctor's surgery, m y body hasn't yet recovered. Biomechanics believe the final is in my feet as they hurt all the time. It would be nice to work, but I don't have any days where I feel human! Today, my right hand has been sore all day and its been painful to walk, not a great recipe to go to work, painkillers haven't touched me.
Hi Sorry I have not be in touch I have not been to good over the last week. I just seem to be down and not able to get up. We are going away in December for 5weeks I am trying to get things ready but I start then have to sit down then a bit more. I am also trying to get ready for Christmas which at the moment is a non starter. I retired from work over 6 years ago I had an accident and slipped on something so I left as they told me they could not find me another job anyway the union took them to court and I got compensation which helped me a lot. But then this horrible complaint arrived so I just have to get on with life. Hope you are feeling a little better.
I am so sorry I have been reading your blog. I know how you feel I have the same problems and I am in so much pain this afternoon that I will Han
VE to take a painkiller in the day now as before I only took one first thing a night time. The doctor last week increased my dosage to300mg a day but I am going to put it upto 450a day and hope this ok. I had to retire in my early 60s due to my health. I do not know how you manage as a care worker my MIL is in a nursing home and I see how hard the woman have to work. I love the way you apologised for it being long. Mine always are I forget what I am doing. Good luck let me know how you go on.
Unfortunately I have been signed off since May when work kindly Rota'd me 4days together, when I saw the doctor today I felt no better, I hobbled into his room, my whole body was in pain but he listened, signed me off for 6 weeks, explained the pregrablin could take 2-3 weeks to start working and sorted a prescription for my pain killers. My employers will not be happy with the sick note but I could not cope with doing quick, quick quick now, it's more slow, slow, stop! Lol! Care assistants work hard and in nursing homes I think it's harder because a lot of the patients can't do it themselves and I am learning how frustrating that can be.
Thank u PRAZEGIRL, it was my first post and once I started, it just started to flow, think it's the months of frustration.
That's fine I talk a few people on here but most just answer once then never again. I suppose some people just do not want to listen to people's worries they have there own. I do not mind people moaning it's better then listening to yourself. I retired early because of my illness plus I had an accident at work which started this awful thing I have now. Sometimes I cannot beliveve that I will never get better. Well time to see if I can get some sleep. Speak soon xx
Well I'm sure the rheumatologist said I would get better, pain clinic says I have to learn to manage my pain! My mum has early Alzheimer's and since I have been in more pain, she has been more willing to help with stuff but I feel bad cos I don't have the energy to do a lot of stuff like I used to and feel like she is losing out. Trouble is, we go out I get tired! I'm only 49, so not ancient! Hope u have a good night's sleep, my neighbour is now starting up so I might not! Hope to speak again xxx
Well I am still awake it is one of those nights when I will not sleep even though I am tired. I did to much today and I will pay for it tommorow. Still it's only sleep. I suppose I am one of the lucky ones I am in my late 60s my parents are both dead and I have so wonderful husband. Still life has to go on.i have thus illness for about 25yesrs and it was only in June this year that the doctor told me what they had been trying to find out what I had. Hope you get a good sleep speak soon xx
Julesq27, hello and I have just read down the page and my thought was is it the start of OsteoArthritis, which is the large joint part of the condition, I have this OA and my knees really hurt some days. The creaking you mentioned could be the cartilage in the
joint, and the elbows are also prone to oa,
You mentioned volterol gel, I am not allowed to use this, so I have tried this newish one FLEXISEQ which is made for joint pain, it is rather expensive, but it lasts a fair length of time, but not available on prescription, sadly.
Have a pillow under your knees to rest them on and so that they don't remain straight all through the night. I fully understand about the knees not touching, and try and prop the end on your bed up, this helps the feet lose any built up fluid and rests the knee joints during the night.
I hope your appointment with the doctor on monday goes well and they listen, my own experience tramadol stopped working for me, I did not feel any benefit, so when I ended up in hospital I went back to basics, co-codamol, I am currently on 30/500 and they work for me, I take them mainly at night, and during the when I have had a very bad night. Could it be that your morphine and tramadol are countering each other, and you may need to stop one or other, and I did read somewhere that in medications can make you feel pain, as one of the daft side effects, and so they need to be upped or dropped slowly and concentrate on one?
