My hands hurt
I used to get a lot of hand pain (which is why when I learnt to drive I only learnt in an automatic) it's not so bad now, but on days when it's sore I wear a wrist support which just holds it tightly which helps lessen the pain.
*hugs* because its not nice to experience.
Hi Red9. ...it's probably safest not to just assume all aches and pains etc are automatically down to Fibro .......perhaps best to get your hands problem checked out to ensure nothing else going on which might require specific treatment. Hope it eases soon.
I've been asking doctors that question for a few years now. No answer forthcoming, as yet. But I live in hope.
My Rheumy referred me to the hand clinic and I am now under a plastic surgeon. I was surprised at that but hands fall under that medical discipline in my local health authority.
I have had carpal tunnel release on one hand and am meant to have the left one done soon, but as it has made very little difference I want to discuss with my consultant first. I also have Osteoarthritis in both hands, and one consultant says it's bad and another says it's minor??? All I know is that my hands still give me a hard time and still wake me up at night.
Splints are only to be worn at night. (As said by the physio at the hand clinic). I find them very helpful for that extra bit of support when I need them, ie when holding a pen or pencil, on my iPad etc.
Please be careful with using splints. If you wear them too often your muscles don't get the use they need and you will have worse problems x
Hi I have very bad hands and wrist I have changed to forearm crutches when walking as it take the pressure away from my wrist I can't sew as to painful and I have found I get a lot of swelling in my knuckles I have connective tissue disease along side fibro , I have sports wrist supports when driving , also I found thumb and wrist sprints help when I am desperate ,I am on hydrochoquine which has helped and dulexatine for the neuropathy also I have compression gloves ,neoprene gloves for cold weather and also I got some microwaveable gloves with herbs in and they are lovely but the best is a lovely deep hot bath and Epsom salts. I am told it's all part of fibro ,what's amazing is its balanced in both wrist ,I thought the rhummie would think I been a hypercondract when I first said ,but because it was in both hands he new what it was
Good luck
Shadow. X
Hi Red9
I am so genuinely sorry to read this and I sincerely hope that you can find the answers that you so desperately desire and deserve. As with any new or prolonged symptom it is always best to get it checked out just to have other conditions ruled out of the equation and not just assume that it is Fibro. I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
