Also guys I'm feeling a bit down today as after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia last year I am finding it really really hard to be inactive. I have always worked all my life so a total change of lifestyle as you will all be aware! Can anybody tell me what hobbies you have without becoming tired or achey ? The boredom some days is driving me mad!

Hello I am only guessing but it sounds like you used to do decoupage. I have now reverted to to pyramid decoupage as it is only squares that get smaller and twist so I don't need tweezers. This also means that I can used the roll of sticky pads out that famous shop. Although it is a lot more expensive I use the roller sellotape and this has helped a lot rather than glue. i hoope I haven't caused any offense.

Nah i used to use tweezers for toppers ir ribbon or that ... Or gen stones etc as my hands are torture for not being able to close in pinching .... And no offence xx

I am so genuinely sorry to read that and I sincerely hope that you feel more like your usual self again soon. I love my garden, it is my biggest hobby! Everything from my orchard to my carnivorous plant collection. I also collect fossils and have a telescope as I am a keen astronomer amongst other things.

I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

I am working on my first quilt! Also doing a bit of writing. I work on them till I start getting tired. Then I work on finding what I want to put in the quilt. Amazing at what you can find! Of course I have 4 grandsons that are all growing like weeds! I am taking a chance on the quilt. My aunt use to make them all the time! So I know how. Just never did it. I figured that the pain is walking on me. Might as well do something that doesn't require me to do a lot at one time! Hugs and I hope you find your hobby!

Adult colouring books. No it's not pornographic. Aids concentration too. Foggy does some lovely ones. how about computerised personalised cards?

I wonder if you can find some voluntary activity. I do a few things. At my wildlife trust we have a lady in a wheelchair who comes to events and helps at stalls. I still manage to get around my local reserve. The good thing is it's not a crisis if I cant go out. Volunteering also means you go at your own pace and can rest as often and as long as you need to.

Where I am we're very lucky with many opportunities, from a water mill (shop and information staff), to a cathedral (guides and information staff - 1000 volunteers). My local heritage railway has several disabled folk in information and admin posts.

I still do my art although I have had to modify. I put elastic bands around the brushes so that they are easier to hold and use pan pastels instead of pastel sticks. I do do card making but have had to adapt. I still do light gardening but have a lot more tubs so that I don't have to get on the floor. I put spent wet oasis in the bottom of the tubs so that they are light and hold the moisture more. If I can't handle the watering can for the baskets I use an old milk carton. I put used t bags on top of the baskets and tubs so that the soil doesn't roll off when wet, it also asks as a mulch and stops them drying out so much. Sending you hugs.

I spend time on the Internet to research Fibro and Osteoarthritis so that I can understand what is wrong with me.

I am coming to the end of 6 years of part time studying for a degree with the Open University.

I enjoy going to see live music, shows and events (use my wheelchair for these and my wife gets free carer tickets usually).

I keep up to date with current affairs.

I collect watches and toys off eBay from my childhood.

Most of all, I enjoy spending more time with my wife, grown up children and my new Grandson now that I do not have to work anymore.

I wish you happy hobby time!

Best wishes,

Dave

Hi there, well I do still do an Art Class once a week, plus Yoga, which is gentle stretching. I like to garden, but have to give myself time limited sessions now. I meet up with friends for a cup of tea or a visit to a garden centre, again I limit how much walking is involved. We usually break up the afternoon by stopping for tea and cake halfway through. I love reading too. I belong to a bowls club, and still run one of the teams, although my own bowling is severely restricted now. Hope you can get some more ideas from others on here? Best wishes MariLiz

Hi I think we can all understand where you are coming from as the majority of us led very active lives with good careers before fibro struck. I found bird watching an absolute solace when I first was ill, I have a bird table set up near the window where I sit and buy bird food in bulk, I make sure they have water and it is amazing what birds we have come in our garden even though we are on a busy main road just a mile from quite a large town. The antics of the baby sparrows this morning all trying to have a bath in an upturned Poppy ornament had me and the OH in stitches. The Robin has become my Garden Supervisor as like Ken I am a keen gardener. At the moment I have a greenhouse where i can potter about and grow some veg from seed I tend to put alot of things in pots on the staging as it is easier to tend them. it is amazing how many runner beans you can get in a large pot and I grown the little Tumbler Toms in pots too and have had alot of success with lettuces again in a pot.

Like Ken I star watch and observe nature in general. I am afraid I am not very good with the needle and thread but I know alot of people on here knit and sew the most amazing things and some knit and make things for charity.

I go to a local Book Club which is called a Book & A Cuppa and we read a story and a related poem together and an opportunity to see other people and of course you are not obliged to read a large book like some book clubs.

Like others I use the internet for looking at research into our illness and others which I unfortunately suffer from and also to investigate things as I love to learn new things.

As Badger says some sort of volunteering is good just doing an hour a week gets you out and there is no undue pressure like having to hold down a job.

Good luck in your search to find distractions let us know what you eventually decide will suit you.x

I'm in our local library book club as I'm up all hours reading when in pain but have other books on a kindle as it's painful sometimes holding books, I also love taking photos when out and I cake decorate in small doses though sometimes after making the cake I'm in too much pain the next day so we just eat it x

I too enjoy surfing the Internet, reading all the daily stories on this website takes me a while as I also enjoy replying to them.

I often find a few things around my home I no longer want or need so I sell using eBay, another good hobby, nothing large or expensive.

I bought an iPad with my disability money as using a keyboard and PC was proving to be too difficult sitting on a hard chair for a long period during the day, this way I can lay down propped up in bed still able to chat online with fellow sufferers.

I play online free games, like Majong, Family Guy, Simpsons puzzles, crosswords etc.

If I'm feeling a bit stronger I enjoy a good enjoyable puzzles, my mum bought me one of those large fold-away puzzle boards, so if I haven't finished which I rarely finish a puzzle of 500 - 1000 pieces in a day I can just pick it up and put it down whenever I choose too.

Or I go to the library in my mobility scooter look T a few books, read the papers there, chat to the friendly staff.

I have a small pond in the garden so that. Is very relaxing watching the fish feed etc.

So there are a few ideas, I hope I've given you something to think about!!

Take care,

Lottie
