I Love working with IT (which is my day job) and listening to audio books at the moment which is getting me back in to "reading" which I have missed for quite a while. Loved demolishing 3 Bosch books, then a trio of David Gemmel's, some Mike Herron's and now starting on The Witcher.
Also love watching tv/films and do a bit of walking. And of course I consider my volunteering on here and elsewhere in the charity as a hobby that is very fulfilling. Called a voicemail back on the weekend and had a lovely chat and since the boy was local he popped in today to the office and we managed to talk some more. Positive distractions are really helpful.
I would also say annoying our office staff as well but that's more of a vocation 😈
Really nice to hear your vast array of hobbies. A really nice balance of interests you have
I must admit I want to read more, I have three books ready to read but right now have more of a use to retain dust than being read! But that’s for another day
I think sneakily we all like to annoy our work colleagues on small occasions all in jest of course 😎
Hi, I also love the true crime documentaries. I'm an avid reader and knitter. Also enjoy a bit of crotcheting and the adult colouring books. But my real passion is the garden.
I started my own little friends forum some years ago now and even though we are only a small group it's been a wonderful distraction from my pain and health problems. And also helped me make new friends. The latter been wonderful as I do suffer from social phobia.
Hobbies have literally saved my sanity. Been part of the moderating team here for a number of years was also great help and distraction 😀
I love crime stuff, all that psychology as to why people do what they do. Sometimes the gory stuff doesn’t put me off when maybe it should 😬
Do you have a pretty garden in the summer? Don’t you just love the stunning blooms of flowers and colours that emerge in the summer especially? I must admit it’s a tough job to even get me to mow my lawn!!
Nice you have a little collective of friends, friends can really help us on our down days but then will be there when we need to laugh. We can all work to provide distractions for eachtoher 🥰
It's amazing how many people with health conditions, not just Fibromyalgia get great therapy from a good murder mystery , me included.I think anything that distracts the mind with things you enjoy can be the best therapy. The Stress of Overthinking can be a terrible thing.
I'm lucky in that despite having to give up my professional art career as it was ( I was a Land and Nature Artist but I have other illnesses as well as Fibromyalgia that means I'm less mobile ) I learned to adapt what I could do and took up photography rather than just using my camera as a tool.
At first it was more just a way to stay positive and have as a hobby.
It's easy to use when I can and just stop when I need to.
Since , I've joined online photography communities, won some awards and contests , I've had some Commissions and when I'm up to it I now arrange gentle walks with people to teach them camera and phone skills to photograph Nature.
Walking slowly can be so much more enjoyable when you have something else to do and a way to focus on the positive things around you , even in a big city.
I keep up drawing choosing to do a doodle from a prompt per day or each week. Ink Therapy is a fun online community that encourages you to draw to a prompt, no matter what your skill and build up your confidence.
I've always sewn , knitted and crocheted for fun and work.
It takes longer to make things these days , as pain from knitting is really a thing , but I still love doing it.
I love doing the exercise I can do as well. I can't do what I could but going for a stroll with my Nordic Sticks , or having a gentle swim , aqua exercising or walking even paddling on the beach make me feel physically and mentally good.
When I'm having a bad spell or can't go out I have a recumbent bike , I put it in front of the TV and pedal slowly while watching one of those virtual cycling or walking videos in lovely places. I enjoy Tai Chi.
I like to find something to learn each day on the internet, I love reading and I enjoy writing and doodling in a journal for fun not just as a way to explore my feelings , just my random thoughts , things I've discovered m things I've seen.
I mainly have to Live Life Indoors without a Carer to accompany me because I have so many conditions that can kick off without warning m including EDS , Chronic Dysautonomia and Severe Vestibular Migraines , but as you can see I can still do things at my own pace that are very positive , despite the limits I have my interests make me feel happily busy.
I try on a good day too see a friend for coffee and cake, I do love Cooking , watching my Ipswich town on the TV(currently not doing very well moving too Premier league.) Love growing things in my greenhouse . Winter I hibernate even more so some very good dramas on TV in the evenings. Any documentaries can be very informative My hubbie loves World war 2 ones xx
I love to crochet (sometimes other crafts), colour in on my phone app, watch basketball (either go to hone games or on TV) and like crime/medical dramas
on better days I love a crime drama. Really got into the new Patience series. Can’t follow a storyline though on foggy days.
For my sins I enrolled in a uni course to try and keep the old grey matter ticking along. It’s great as it’s mainly on line and the lectures can be watched live or recorded so at my own pace. I had reasonable adjustments for the first exams so not too taxing.
Of course my love of all things canine take much of my time with judging and stewarding. I’m also on a couple of committees. I do everything I can to distract my attention from the dreaded fibro and other issues I have.
In my free time, I enjoy looking after myself and making the most of the little things in life. I have a passion for cooking from scratch and love creating and enjoying homemade meals. With a background in beauty therapy, I like to indulge in self-care, whether that’s giving myself a facial or applying gel nails.
My Maine Coon cat is my absolute priority, she gives me so much love, and I cherish the time we spend together. I also enjoy meeting up with friends for lunch or catching up with family.
I have a real interest in true crime documentaries and find them fascinating. I also love writing letters and have a pen pal, which allows me to connect with people in a more personal and thoughtful way.
I like to travel once or twice a year, though I prefer destinations that aren’t too far away, as long flights make me feel stiff and restless. I also have several health conditions, so I spend time focusing on my well-being and doing what I can to keep myself feeling as good as possible.
My hobbies are your hobbies too! There seems to be a pattern….. I enjoy being educated by programmes, mostly factual and I’m getting more in to nature programmes as I get older! Love the Rugby/ snooker and Olympics too.
I work with special needs children so spend my day off finding lovely resources for art and craft sessions so I’m often in the charity shops. Thanks for the post, it’s mental health week in school this week so it’s good to spread positivity.
Hi 👋. I do love true crime and documentary on all sorts of interesting things. Some of my time is used gardening and looking around shops if I mobility isn't to bad.
Do it self jobs around the house 🏠 painting and fixing things .
Always looking to downsize my stuff which is an on going job.. plus selling my stuff or taking to the charity shops.
Knitting and crafts. Listening to music and listening to story books. Podcasts of all sorts.
Research and self-help to my illness and pain levels and drugs. Always looking for updates on my illnesses.
Looking at ways to save money through deals with electricity and gas. Credit cards best APR. And saving accounts.
I enjoy cooking and making things which are a bit different.
Doing chair exercises and moving my body as much as possible. Trying to build my muscles 💪 through my day by lifting items and carrying small pieces.
My life is very much a mixed bags of events and my mindset of trying to keep pushing as far as I can. My journey is to do more through my mobility issues and keep my life as normal as possible and focus on my likes 👍 👌. Being positive helps me challenge myself to achieve. God bless to you all . Big hugs. Xx
If you enjoy saving money or want to make a few extra pennies here and there, there’s a community on Reddit called Beermoneyuk - there’s a fair bit of change to be made doing simple stuff like bank account switches, surveys, mystery shopping and stuff. I also do matched betting which made a lot of money last year and it’s tax free and doesn’t affect benefits as it’s technically gambling (it’s not gambling and there’s no risk, the whole point of matching is you win either way)
I love any design work so I peruse the Internet...Occasionally, I practice my art designs to make card creations.
Most of the time I try+kp warm!
Lots of sitting+watching the best TV dramas in between a few household tasks. The house is becoming a tip again with this current flare up but thank goodness we have activities we enjoy...
i love a good true crime doc! Have you watched any lately that you would recommend?
Aside from true crime, i read, watch movies, and spend time with my parents and cats! I’ve tried to learn how to knit and crochet but my hands are too stiff 😭 i like to cook but thats more of a life skill, not so much a hobby lol
At the tender age of 40 (and a half) I unexpectedly have a nine week old baby so not much in the way of hobbies outside of trying to survive looking after her and running my business which could not go on hold for longer than a couple of weeks leave..
If at any point in the future I manage to find the energy for anything, I’m a knitter, crocheter, pattern designer, jeweller, yarn dyer and spinner.. I also have a Kindle hopefully sat next to my bed and a subscription on it costing money, so far not picked up once.
I also enjoy finding unusual ways of making money for as little ‘work’ as possible - with the baby I don’t have the brain or physical energy to keep up with much of my beloved rinsing of bookies’ free bets offers but hope to get back to that because I find the playing with numbers really interesting and it’s lucrative. I’m currently focused on squeezing as much as humanly possible out of the DWP.
Wow! I had my third boy at age 41. He has been a joy and enjoys carpentry as an occasional hobby when he has time, so if your little lass takes after you, she is going to be very lucky in having a mum who is so creative and will pass on all her mindful, varied skills to her... My niece does incredibly beautiful work which includes felting as well, and her mum (now no longer with us) also created her own businesses and thrived after divorce ... first with lace and then interesting foreign textiles, including weaving etc. I am so 'notaknitter' and sew stressfully, so I am always amazed to see the work of others and that of my two growing grandaughters.
Was mostly a stay at home mum but did some interesting study of modern 'no put down' early years child raising and development for a few years. while in Canada. I hazard a guess that your own active mind will be fascinated to watch the changing perception and skill development of your daughter. Exhausting but rewarding it will be, so here's wishing you the hormones and the help that will get you where you want to be in spite of any handicaps you have to deal with and any extra pain you have to bear. 🐒🐇🐩🐏🐁🦔
I too like watching true crime stories, I wanted to be a police officer but was an inch too short so couldn’t get in but I like the criminology aspect and how they’ve solved the case, certain illnesses can be very educational especially if the doctors haven’t heard of it like APS and Hughes disease like my friend has and lime disease as both my dad and niece have been bitten by ticks but my niece has all the symptoms of lime disease but the doctors wouldn’t do the blood test because they said it was too costly, thought they swore a hypocritic oath to do no harm, well they are if they are not getting down to the root cause just because of money.
I loved reading, always had a book in my bag and used to buy and sell them online, never made a penny though, just bought more books!
Find I can't keep the story in my head now and can't get to grips with talking books either, my brain just wanders off. I now seem to have the concentration span of a midge.
So tend to binge watch a whole series at a time, mystery's, thrillers, murders, spooky stuff on my days off.
Music, always listening to music, mainly rock but love most except jazz🤮, sadly no concerts any more but can still watch them online.
Crochet, self taught with YouTube videos but can't right now with 2 mad 6 month old kittens who just make you smile every day no matter how 💩 you're feeling.
The 2 oldie cats grumpily checking them in a vain attempt to keep them in line is hilarious and the house is even more of a riot than usual 😂
Hey Flutterbye10, I love going for nature walks with my dog, especially to the beach or in the woods. I find it soothing to the soul.I enjoy reading & watching sci-fi when I need to rest & have just got into cooking from scratch. I love my houseplants & taking care of them.
Meeting up with friends for coffee or a meal is another pastime I enjoy.
Thanks for the question & lovely to see what other people enjoy doing.
