Hi all so again I haven’t posted in a long time the last time was a few weeks back to ask for advice. I finally after 4-5 months of feeling worse went back to the doctors today. She has given me amitriptyline and naproxen. I started the naproxen today and it helped for a few hours but I have been resting a lot today (my day off) but I don’t want to take another one too early as want to take one before bed. I’m going to stick to it for the next few weeks before seeing my GP again, but is there anything I can take in between the naproxen? Or has anyone been in the same situation and once the amitriptyline kicks in will it help more?
Thanks in advance for any advice xx

Hey whitediamond the naproxen is 500mg twice a day and the amitriptyline is one tablet at night, think it’s 10mg. I was on 3 tablets a few years back but it made me so sleepy in the day I sounded drunk which isn’t good for someone dealing with the public all day. So she has put me on 1 tablet for now to see how I get on. I might try the paracetamol as well over the next couple of days I just need something to take the edge off this horrible pain x
Hi there, Good for you for finaly going to the doctors. We are not medically trained to give you advice on medication. Your GP has given you what he thinks you should be taking. Some medications can take up to 6 weeks before you can tell if they are working or not.
Please remember what one person may find helpful may not always be helpful for you. I would suggest if you feel you need any further pain help to go back and talk it over with your GP. I wouls say follow your doctors advice on how they wish you to take your medication I hope it can help you xx
Hi there Hidden I was just making sure Hols15 was aware that we can not give medical advice and she should listen and follow her GP's instructions. No one knows how another person will react to medication.
Have you checked the instructions the pharmacy put on your Naproxen medication? It usually says to take them with food, to help avoid them irritating your tummy.
I have been on them for a wee while now, and if I should happen to forget to take a dose at the correct time I notice my pains get worse, so for me I know that it definitely helps.
Good luck, and I hope you find your medication helpful. As Dizzytwo has said, sometimes it can take a few weeks for them to kick in. x
Hi sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell. I am on both tablets and stomache protector. As previous advice given, always take with food. I only have ametryptiline at night, 40mg. Enables me to get some rest, but do feel more foggy in my head when awaking for a couple of hours. In the day 250mg naproxen 3 times a day. Helps a little. Told it can be addictive, so l try not to take unless l really know the day gonna be to difficult. Always check everything with your doctor, as for each of us it is different, even though many of us have similar symptoms. I have been referred to a pain clinic, in hope of finding other ways( mindfulness, relaxation, gentle stretching, posture, balance, exercising and pacing). I am dreadful as when sort of ok, l run around doing everything, just in case l unable to for next few days. Take care and let us know how you get on.x
