Hi gins, not sure about having polyps, but I always have a very runny nose first thing in the morning which lasts for about half an hour and sometime get the drips going down the throat, there is a word for it, but my achy foggy head can't recall it, but I always have a large hankie by my pillow for when I wake up.....that is if I'm lucky enough to have had good sleep :-)

I'm sorry your glasses exacerbate the problem, that must be very annoying :o

I had those and also had an operation to have them removed. Must admit tho Ive had my fair share of operations an thats one I would not like to repeat. X

Hi gins

I had polyps in my nose.

I was constantly bunged up for over 4 months and sounded as though I had a dreadful cold.

I saw a consultant and had them removed about 10 years ago.

I'm never bunged up now, but I do find since I've had them removed that everytime I get a cold it goes straight to my chest and I'm now very prone to chest infections.

I was told they can grow back over time and I'm now starting to get slightly bunged up again at the bridge of my nose. My glasses irritate it too.

xx

Hi, Yes I get exactly the same symptoms and saw an ENT medic who said it was nasal polyps but I decided not to have them removed as having investigated myself it seems they tend to recur anyway! I googled and find I have what's called Post Nasal Drip and it often accompanies being overweight as well as having fibro and that becoming more active can shift it too so I've decided to deal with both those (weight and exercise). Having a higher pillow helps, although I find that makes my shoulders joints hurt instead. My GP gave me a Beconaise spray and that helps. Sue

Hi, I have it every day and sometimes wake feeling drugged because of the chesty feeling, almost as if I have an infection, then I cough quite a few times during the morning especially if I chat. Sometimes I cough up clear globules (ugh) which feels worrying but medics seem not to take that very seriously so I have to assume it is ok. I permanently feel as though I have a cold and occasionally my nose becomes mildly infected too. I find it frustrating because it sounds as if I must be a smoker which I am not, and also because it makes me feel unwell and yet I know it's probably nothing more serious than a side effect of minor problems. You take care too, Sue

Hi Sue, there are more of us suffering than I imagined. Thanks for your reply and I know exactly what you mean about globules, but as long as they are clear it is fine. It is the pressure in my face that is the worse bit and yet by the time I am up it will have gone.

Thinking of you have a good day hope it is sunny!:)

Hi gins

I had a really good Sunday with my grandchildren but the rugby was terrible! It was worse on Saturday when England lost in France. At least we did well in the cricket, OH NO! we lost in that as well.

Take care

Hi,

Yeah I've had this whole problem since i got ill. I've had two operations in the mean time. It's a complete nightmare if you get them bad! I'm getting better with my nose situation the stronger i get. I still produce a lot of snot though, for some reason, at times. Like i had one beer last night and i got very stuffy after that!

Hi Gins, I have one apparently, and like secondhandrose, I decided to leave it alone. If my nose was blocked all the time I suppose I would have to rethink, but it's more of a nuisance than anything else. A nasal spray might help but prolonged use of that can cause it's own problems, good luck with a cure.

Thanks Linda, I did try the nasal spray for about 4 months then gave it up such a faff.! LoL just have to get on with it. xxgins

in reply to Ginsing

Hi gins

I would be careful regarding using a nasal spray.

The consultant and doctor I saw both said that you can get something called "rebound" when you stop using the spray.

This basically means that your nose will get worse than it was before you started using the spray, when you stop.

Oh goodness. I'm so hopeless at all this :(

Did that make any sense?

Yes it does and I support that. It's what I was told after a long standing similar but not identical problem x FB

Try again

Hi gins. No but I had something similar for 20 years or so. I had sterimar, sterilised sea water spray available over the counter.. Quite expensive if I recall and I don't know if I got it on script. sterimarnasal.co.uk/ it doesn't irritate the same way as Sinex type stuff, but soothes presumably because the salt balance is just right. Not sure nasal spray is right for that. It constricts blood vessels (that are usually inflamed during a cold/flu). Doesn't really sound the right treatment but I'm not a medic. :) :)

Hi Gins, apologies if this has been mentioned, i don't have the energy today to read all the posts as there are rather a lot.

I have severe obstructive sleep apnea, and have to use a CPAP machine to keep my airways open at night whilst I sleep. Its been just over two years now since I was diagnosed, but a year ago I started to lose my sense of smell. I wondered if it was the machine effecting it, so I spoke to me Sleep Consultant, who is also an ENT Surgeon, so the first thing he suggested doing was looking to see if there were any polyps in my nasal passages. All it involved was just sticking a small camera up my nose. It doesn't hurt. I also was having the same symptoms as you mention and although no polyps, i have what they call allergic rhinitis/post nasal drip where it runs down the back of your throat or a constant bunged up or runny nose.

Glasses are a real pain and I hate them. My sinus are slightly inflamed, as confirmed by a CT scan and it can leave that red 'butterfly' appearance across the face when inflamed.

There are too many allergens to test, but the basic ones are house dust mites, pet fur/dander grass etc, for me its grass but there could be others that they haven't tested but it was recommended that i take initially a nasal decongestant, but i was not to take for more than 10 days as he said it can make things worse, but continue (forever) using a steroid nasal spray and antihistamines.

This has 'dried up' my nasal passages considerably. It did take a few months before i noticed any significant difference, and hasn't fully bought back my sense of smell. My glasses as they slip down my nose don't hurt as much now, although leaving them in one position too long makes my nose feel bunged up although it isn't.

If you are interested in the meds I have been using, feel free to PM me. I didn't feel it was appropriate adding them on here as its not a Fibro related med.

If you have nasal polyps, he did assure me the op was quite simple, however they can reappear in time.

Its certainly worth having your nose looked at though, as you want to feel as comfortable as is possible xx

Hi, New on here

I found the site searching for prednisone side effects and alternatives... I have had Aggressive Nasal Polyps for 15 years along with late onset asthma and aspirin allergy. I Have had 4 polypectomy operations and a front sinus obliteration. Short term relief and then the b***ds come back with vengeance. My life should be so good but it is crap. I am 65 and have been diagnosed with osteoporosis in my upper left femur. I have used betnesole nose drops for years and had numerous antibiotic and prednisone courses to keep the polyps at bay.

This has been reasonable successful but i have weeks and weeks with blocked nose and the need to blow hard to release the damm stuff. I am now suffering Chest congestion which stems from inflammation in the bronchial tubes, until i get up the long stringy mucus i struggle to breath and cough constantly (much to the annoyance of my partner)

prednisone temporarily opens up my airways and i get a little relief for a few week,,,and then it starts again.... My Doctor has now stopped me taking prednisone because of the osteoporosis

Help

Any ideas that i might be able to try

Cheers

Paul
