Advice on some strange blood test results!

Hi all I hope you’re doing well!

I’m writing on this forum to get some advice on a number of strange blood test results and symptoms I’ve been experiencing. Just for context, I’m a 26 year old cycling female with normal regular periods.

Since the last year I noticed substantial weight gain (1 stone), loss of libido, dryness down there and and increase in brain fog. I do suffer with under active thyroid but this is well managed with T4/T3 combination therapy and my levels are good through the range.

I decided to conduct a Dutch hormone test and a private blood test which both revealed I have post-menopausal levels of oestrodial, my testosterone is also on the lower end but within range, and my progesterone is normal and in the range.

My LSH/FSH/ and prolactin are all normal.

The results have really left me very confused as to what could be wrong with my hormones. Given I have regular periods, I can’t understand why my estrogen markers are all so low. But it would definitely explain some of my symptoms.

My cortisol was also tested and this is just within the range but quite low and flat throughout the day.

Has anyone else been in this position and could advise me as to the best Dr to see as I’m really worried over my low estrogen levels and also my fertility picture as a result. Thank you in advance!

Hi Hafsah, although I'm much older than you, I had results very similar to that when I did a DUTCH test and functional bloods through a nutritionist a few months ago. She didn't have any answers for me as to why this could be and just really suggested a few more supplements and also said I should be eating phytoestrogen foods like flax seeds, organic soy at least once a day to increase estrogen which I did. I will also say that these levels didn't negatively affect my IVF cycle and I went on to produce 4 good quality embryos so don't worry too much however you're trying. Probably an endocrinologist might be able to interpret them well and you might have one already with your thyroid (I'm also on t4/t3 and well managed). I would also discuss with your doc taking DHEA which is the pre hormone to both estrogen and testosterone. I took some to raise my testosterone and it did it quite nicely so just monitor your bloods if you do take it. Hope you get some answers.
