Pregnant. Blood test results tripled nearly. is it ectopic?

Hi everyone

I’m definitely pregnant but still scared it’s ectopic. I’m 4 weeks and 5 days I’ve had 2 blood tests within 48 hours. My first blood test came back as nearly 850 and yesterday it was nearly 2500-3000. Don’t know the exact results as he read them to me. My gp said everything is great and it’s rising like it should but I’m not so sure.

I have the normal pregnancy symptoms and some mild pain near my pubic bone slightly to the right, lower back and some pelvic pressure I have been getting some mild cramping too on and off I’ve had this since just before ovulation. My gp thinks it’s normal or could be my endo and I had surgery February and it could also be scar tissue pulling.

I’m so worried and stressed it could be ectopic because I have a partially blocked tube on the right. Has anyone else’s blood tests nearly tripled in a 48 hours?

Everything sounds ok and if the GP was concerned he would have told you! Hopefully you can get a scan arranged so and that will help settle your nerves. You could even try booking a private one through baby bond if you are having to wait on a 12 wk scan. Good luck.xx

Thankyou. I’m a massive worrier so I will stress until I know everything is ok and I don’t know about all these hcg levels and everything I keep thinking that’s high. Will definitely arrange a private scan. Thankyou for your reply x

Hi Disneynala. I an fully understand your anxieties. Yu probably know that we look for the Beta hCG to double every 48hrs. Why don't you book a telephone call with your GP and see whether he/she would check again?? Definitely if the pain increases. Hope all is OK. Diane

Hi Disneynala,

I’m so sorry you’re having such a worrying time!

I have no personal experience with ectopics but I have seen a few ladies write about their experiences and they usually had slow rising hcg rather than fast.

They say if it’s a progressing pregnancy than it should double in 24-48 hours so it sounds like it’s all moving in the right direction! Everyone is different but I would take those numbers as a really good sign xxx

I can remember the first sign I got that I was pregnant was pain down near my pubic bone, especially when I was turning over in bed etc - sometimes took my breath away! Also had cramps. Now 29 weeks and everything looking good! Xx

Hi there I’ve just read your post May I please ask if your early pregnancy cramps started? Do they feel exactly like period cramps.. ? Do you remember how long they lasted and when they started?

Hi, I can’t remember exactly but it was a few days before otd (9dp5dt). The cramps were pretty light not exactly like period cramps. The thing that tipped me off more was the sharp pain near the pelvic bone/one one side if I stood up too quickly or turned over in bed etc. Hope that helps, I know symptoms drive us crazy. Good luck x

In ectopic pregnancies, levels of HCG are usually lower and rise more slowly than in a non-ectopic pregnancy.

Ectopics usually rise but don’t double enough some people’s do double quicker or the egg could have split and it could be twins So try not to worry just yet.

Hi don’t be worried . It just sounds like the pregnancy is strong. My ectopic started off at 10hcg and took 3 weeks to become over 10,000 it less than doubled every time. So we knew it wasn’t right . It sounds to me that your fine this pregnancy my first levels were 1085 and then shot up again that week In the thousands and I’m 35 weeks pregnant finally with this one xo

Hi Disneynala, I am exact same dates as you. I had bloods on Wed and Friday and they doubled plus a little bit more. Why would you think it’s ectopic? Isn’t rising numbers the most positive and reassuring confirmation? Try not to worry plus your GP said all is fine. Could it be twins or perhaps it’s just normal for it to rise so much- I could only imagine it’s positive. It makes me worried that mine only doubled. It’s so hard to stay positive but that is what we got to do. Would love to stay in touch as we at same stage in our journey. Best wishes to you and BREATHE

Aw that’s great news to here. I Know everyone is saying it’s good but I have so many issues as I have a right blocked tube and I know I ovulated from my blocked tube side as I was in lots of pain on the right when testing ovulation. I never thought I would get pregnant especially from a blocked side. So I feel like I’ve convinced myself it will be ectopic. I’ve been doing lots of googling and some say if it’s high it could be a sign of ectopic from people’s experiences. I don’t think I will be able to relax until I know. Every pain or twinge I get I’m like it’s ectopic. My gp is saying the same as everyone one on here but I just can’t relax I don’t know what is normal and what is not. I hope your pregnancy goes really well it sounds very promising x

If your that worried then ask for a repeat hcg and see what it’s doing now or book a private scan just to make sure

My hCG rose like this… I thought for sure I must have had multiples but there was only one! I would way rather it rise quickly than slowly. Good luck! You will have answers soon.
