Fluids in womb and FET help

I am looking for some wise words of advice as feeling really sad.

We had a missed miscarriage of twins (naturally conceived) over a year ago. We were then told that I have very low AMH and that we also have male factor infertility. They advised us on doing two freeze all cycles before proceeding with FET. We have now got 7 pgs tested day 5 or 6 frozen embryos. During these two cycles the womb lining etc was all good. After the two cycles, the clinic recommended doing a 3D SIS scan and a mock embryo transfer before proceeding with FET in a later cycle. The 3D SIS showed that everything was in very good order according to the doctor. At this point we were both really excited about doing our first FET. Unfortunately our first FET, which was medicated, had to be cancelled because on day 14 there were abundant fluids in the womb and the lining hadn’t thickened enough. This really broke our heart as we had never had fluids before. We did another scan in December just after ovulation and again it all looked normal with no fluids. The doctor then arranged for a natural FET. Today was day 8 of the natural FET (my clinic does scans almost daily to track ovulation) and while the endometrium has a thickness of over 9mm, there are fluids in the womb again…. The doctor has decided to continue scanning (next scan on Saturday), but I am just terrified that the cycle will be cancelled again. Has anyone experienced fluid in the womb with no obvious cause ? Did they get re-absorbed? Any success stories ? Feeling really helpless.

I'm so sorry for your loss and that you're going through this additional stress. I had a long protocol cycle cancelled for no response, then 'weird' responses on short protocols which my clinics tried to cancel for various reasons, but by then we'd had a year's delay from covid shutting clinics and I just wanted to proceed unless it really was a no-hope situation. I'd never had fluid until my FET when I was told there was fluid on the first and I think second scan, plus my lining had over-thickened and they said I may have a polyp (again never had that before). They didn't seem to be concerned about the fluid and just said they'd keep an eye on it - maybe it was because in their view there wasn't enough to be concerned about, but they didn't say. They were much more worried about the possible polyp and they tried very hard to get me to cancel and suggested having investigations. By then I was tbh totally fed up and felt I knew my body, plus they didn't seem certain these things wouldn't resolve. I reduced the oestrogen right down and by the final scan the fluid and the 'polyp' had gone. It's a horrible pressure deciding whether to risk continuing and possibly 'waste' embryos and funding, but this time I went with my gut and determined that if it didn't work, I could be at peace with that. It worked but it could easily have gone the other way for the reasons the clinic identified or any number of others. It's good your doctor is suggesting continuing and seeing if it resolves as that is what happened for us, so not sure you need to rule this FET out just yet.

Yes, I had fluid in my uterus during my recent fet scan. I also had bleeding while taking estrogen which is unusual so I definitely didn't think it was looking good or that it would go ahead. They kept me on estrogen/progynova longer to build back up the lining after the bleeding and scanned me another few times... The fluid went away at the final scan and there was none there on the day of transfer either. It was a successful transfer after previous ones and failed so definitely didn't seem to effect it... But I remember the worry after all the prep and build up and whether it was even a.good idea to go ahead after these problems. Fingers crossed for you it will be reabsorbed also X

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies and kind words. I went for the scan yesterday (day 10) and they said there were no fluids. Unfortunately I went again today (day 11) and the fluids are there again. They don’t know what can be causing it and they don’t think it’s anything to do with the tubes. They have asked me to go for another scan tomorrow, but I just can’t stop feeling helpless and useless

So sorry you're going through this, it must be beyond frustrating! I can't imagine what you must be going through, so much uncertainty on top of the IVF rollercoaster. Sending big hugs❤

I thought I’d share an update in case this is of help to other women in a similar position. The fluids started to clear naturally close to ovulation and by the day of ovulation all fluids were gone! We had our transfer today 😍
