Fluid on womb @ 2 week scan - FET

Morning everyone. I went for a scan on Wednesday morning to check how my body is reacting to Progynova - been taking the meds for 2 weeks, 1 week @ x3 per day and another week @ x4. Scan showed fluid on my womb… apparently this is ‘rare’ but I know 2 people who have also had this. The clinic advised me to start my Cyclogest (progesterone) pessaries x2 per day in the hope it soaks up the fluid. Got another scan on Monday to check… also been advised to keep taking the oestrogen. If the fluid is gone I can have ET on Tuesday but if not the cycle will be cancelled…. Not sure what to think!!! Why is IVF never straight forward 😔 Has anyone else had this?! If so what was the outcome?

Hi ChaicoalLad. Oh dear, not what you want, but if it doesn’t clear up, it may need to be drained. So sorry, I shall be thinking of you. Diane

Thank you Diane. They wouldn’t drain it, they’d just cancel the cycle 😔

Hi. Sadly, it can happen, but hopefully whatever’s caused it will have dried up and all will be fine next tome. Thinking of you.

this happened to me, and unfortunately the fluid didn’t clear up so they cancelled my cycle the day before the planned FET. However, I got straight onto another cycle and they booked me in for a D&C after my period to make double sure all the fluid would be gone next time. I had my FET a week ago and everything went smoothly this time. I’m so sorry it’s not ideal, hopefully for you it does clear up and they don’t have to cancel. But if even if they do have to cancel, at least it’s very quick into the next cycle - no prep month needed, or at least that’s what I experienced!

Hello, just a question and apologies if it’s sensitive but have you had a previous pregnancy with a c section? If so, the fluid may be caused by a uterine niche (where the c section scar hasn’t healed correctly internally. I had this (just had surgery to fix) and each month it would create fluid that is not good for embryo transfer. That said progesterone can absorb the fluid (it did for me but the transfers failed) so I’ve had surgery.

If not, then have you had your fallopian tubes checked? They can create fluid also.

Wishing you the best of luck with the transfer x

Hi love, we experienced exactly the same… our first medicated FET was cancelled because of fluid in the womb. We then moved to natural FETs and there was less fluid, it would appear at the beginning of the cycle and disappear before ovulation. Unfortunately these two FETs ended in chemical and bfn. Before the third FET I insisted on having a 3D hycosy to ensure there were no issues with my tubes (my doctor was sure that there were no issues based on other factors). The hycosy showed that my tubes were perfectly fine BUT the cycle after the hycosy had absolutely no fluid and it was our successful one. My theory is that the hycosy might have cleared something ! Wishing you lots of luck 🍀

Hi Charcoal this has been happening to me. My first round of IVF 4 years ago I had to freeze all as at egg collection they noticed the fluid (I had a previous c-section so it was because of this) I had surgery to correct and then 4 months later was ready to try again. Medicated cycle was cancelled as lining was not thickening although no fluid. Next cycle we tried natural, was able to JUST transfer lining was not quite 7.5mm and transferred 2 embryos. Lost one twin early and have a bouncing 3 year old now. Fast forward a couple of years and started the journey again. Due to my history had surgery to remove adhesions and fluid which we were told was successful. On to stims and then Again had to freeze embryos but this time due to OHSS that was a year ago and since then I’ve had 6 cancelled cycles 😭 tried medicated to start and lining was not thick enough, had a hysteroscopy to check fluid and was told all clear so tried natural a few months later after time to heal and now fluid is back! I’m literally at breaking point. Currently day 10 of a medicated cycle which fluid appears less but still there and lining incredibly thin 4.3mm. I am waiting for a call from my consultant but guessing another cancellation. I think our last hope it’s to try stims as lining got to 10mm with that which I’m told reduced fluid. What I would say to you is surgery should be a last resort as although it can get rid of the fluid it actually thins your lining every time so you can like me end up with multiple isssues. Sending you hope and positivity xxx
