I recently found out that my FET worked. My clinic is abroad and sent me prescription with a letter for my GP to prescribe progesterone suppositories, Clexane and estrogen.
Initially I was informed to come and collect my prescription. On the prescription everything looked ok. Progesterone to take till 12 weeks. I paid private rate to pick the prescription which I didn't mind. But then I was only given 15 progesterone suppositories with instruction to take it one three times a week. Initially I thought may be it's a different strength but it's 200 mg like the one clinic gave me to take 3 a day.
I was given 20 clexane instead of 84. When I queried this I was told that because I did fertility treatment abroad the NHS cannot support me. With prescription. I explained the treatment is different from my current state as I am now pregnant and need to take correct dose for my embryos to survive. I told that the maximum GP is allowed to prescribe is 1 three times a week as it is the responsibility of the Foreign clinic to give me all the meds I need for my pregnancy
I find this very worrying especially as I am paying full private rate but need the prescription to be able to buy what I need.
Of serious concern is that a UK Dr who knows the correct dose of progesterone decided to underdose me because I started treatment abroad.
Is above normal for others who did treatment abroad and layer got pregnant. How did you fill your first 12 weeks medication.
I was given clexane because my blood test showed that my blood was too thick and needs to be tested every month to make sure it's not over thinning. I don't know of GP wants me to travel abroad for this .
I feel like there is bias because I am above 50 as if I was a 14 year old and got pregnant I would have gotten the care I need.
I will look for medic to issue paid private prescription so I can buy my remaining meds. But I am traumatized that GP restricted my dose to 3 a week knowing I just did IVF and pregnancy need to be supported with hormones regardless of my age.

I had treatment abroad and I didnt approach my GP got meds as I suspect they wouldnt have been happy to prescribe I took my foreign prescription to Asda and they dispensed but I had to pay for them. Hopefully you'll get the meds privately like I did. There are also online companies you can try. Good luck.xx
My dear thank you so much. I did call Asda and they said the prescription is Foreign. I will go there in person today. What's the online one?. The progesterone will finish soon . I emailed one contact I was given and waiting for Response.
The price I paid at my local pharmacy is higher than at Asda. I thought I needed a UK prescription first. So what I wanted was for gp to convert the foreign prescription.
Do you also HV to go private for tests and scans?
I went abroad cos all the clinics I approched told me I am too old.
Asda took mine and it was foreign, however it was written in English. They had to do a few checks but were happy to take it. The places the others have mentions is where I was thinking for online. I had to pay for an early scan, I used ultrasound direct for that but got referred to the local hospital for the normal maternity care, 12 wks scan etc. Good luck.xx
There is a company called fertility2u who will deal with foreign prescriptions. In the past my local pharmacy would fill them but they have said that they are no longer able to because of Brexit. Good luck getting the drugs you need. I’m so happy to read that you are 50 and pregnant. It gives me hope. X
Yes 51. 52 in November. I used fertility yoga, Chinese herbs, all sorts. I am still nervous but counting every Tuesday and praying. Having morning sickness but coping. Embryos were transferred on 3 July so really early days. Waiting to scan in 2 weeks to see where we are.
I will pray for you too. I’m 47, I gave birth to a daughter in December. But sadly she was premature and died five weeks later. Nothing age related at all, a cervix issue.
If Asda won’t prescribe it due to the prescription not being administered in the UK perhaps you could go to a local fertility clinic and provide them with your paperwork associated with treatment and ask if they can prescribe it to you?
Hello. Although I used a private clinic in the UK, I've encountered similar issues.I assumed that following a positive pregnancy test, my GP and NHS provision would take over, as presumably it would with a 'natural' pregnancy.
I contacted my GP as I require both progesterone and Clexane (for two blood clotting conditions which has contributed to recurrent miscarriages). I was really disappointed to be told that they wouldn't consider prescribing me anything until the private consultant discharged me (I've paid for two cycles, so presumably I won't be discharged until these are complete) and following discharge, they would only 'consider' prescribing the meds for me.
I can't help but feel that we are being treated unfairly. Knowing I have had recurrent miscarriages, I'm sure they'd have prescribed me Clexane had my pregnancy been non-IVF.
It's awful. Very sad. I only just wanted paper prescription. I have tried for 10 years. Only 3 viable embryos 2 transfered . By something like in fairy tale I got pregnant at 51. And they changed my dosage to one three times a week???? Cos I went private???? I am traumatized.
Where are you based? There is an online pharmacy that will issue medication on overseas prescriptions if your clinic emails it to them. There is also a pharmacy in London that will fullfil overseas prescriptions. I got my medication from a supermarket pharmacy but you need your clinic to send you the original prescription in the post.
I used Fertility2u and the clinic abroad was able to provide an electronic prescription which could be fulfilled and delivered. It worked really well. You do need the correct dosage!!
i just got my bfp from crgh in london and the meds will cost me around 3k till 10 weeks. luckily my gp agreed to prescribe all my meds, inhixa, crinone, utrogestan, progynova and lubion. Am so happy because its has relieved me
