Hi lovelies,

I had a first consultation with an endocrinologist and he has ordered the following tests. (Im seeing him privately as gp wont refer)

My main concern is me being unexplained / irregular/ and thyroid not being optimal.

Did you do any of these tests? What do they mean and did it help you any further?

Thank you 🙏

Urea and electrolytes

Liver function tests

Full blood count

9 AM Fasting lipid profile

HbA1c

Thyroid function tests TPO antibodies T3

Hmm. I think the thyroid one and the hormone profile (LH and FSH) to conceive TSH must be under 2.5mnol. The LH and FSH will change depending when you test in your cycle. How come you can’t get some of those with the GP?

Hey thanks. My gp wouldnt do anything as my thyroid is in the range 1.9 to 2.9. But i have symptoms of something being messed up as i said irregular cycles, unexplained infertility etc. So i just want an answer i suppose. Xx

Hiya your TSH should definitely be at least under 2.5 if TTC - my endocrinologist says 1 or under. You need to get your ft4 and ft3 tested, tpo and tgab anti-bodies. Recommend posting over on the thyroid forum when you have your results. If they did show you had a thyroid issue - say hshimotos it’s really important to get vitamins tested - vit d, b12, folate as often these can be low in those with thyroid issues. Highly recommend posting on the thyroid forum with your results as even some endocrinologists can be hit or miss.

Thanks Arlie for the suggestion. Im in my 2ww and just did my bloods. If it is positive you think i can do without increase of my dosage for a few weeks xxx

Are you on levothyroxine already? I'm so sorry I'm really not an expert but I'm pretty sure I've seen guidelines saying levothyroxine should be increased by 25mcg once you're pregnant. Your endocrinologist should be all over this or the fertility clinic if they know anything about thyroid? If you are on levo with a TSH as high as 2.9 and still with symptoms it sounds like you are/ were really undermedicated.

My GP is abysmal so I go straight to the endo for anything now. If you post over on the Thyroid forum they will probably be able to give you better advice. Good luck xxx

Thanks Arlie. I know what you mean. My gp said she wont touch it now im seeing the endo. But timing wasnt really good and i dont want to stress. Will call my clonic tomorrow xx

Yeah definitely don't worry, I'm sure will be fine - levo is slow acting so a couple of weeks won't make a huge difference. xx

I got most of these tests done too. Interpretation depends on your results. So best to wait and see the values you get. The antibodies tests are most important to know whether your not ideal thyroid levels are due to an autoimmune disorder. For example Hashimoto.

9am cortisol relates to knowing if your adrenal function are still working properly.

Have you taken prednisolone or dexamethasone this year at all?

Liver function is important if you took the above meds.

Some of the Other tests are standard fertility tests

SHBG: I don’t know. But if you have the chance to ask your endocrinologist, please let ke know.

Thank you! I am doing the thromobophia/anti thrombohipla and the full immune profile but those I am getting from the GP. There are some immune ones like Killer cells and DQ (I think) via the clinic. I will certainly ask about the ones you mentioned -Thank you

Thanks Lilly. So far only thyroid being under-active. So it would be good to know why my levothyroxine isnt doing the trick on 75 mg. xx

You will find my reply probably a bit silly but these tests had been recommended to my husband when he went to an endocrinologist as well @ NHS as we are struggling with male infertility. All results came back normal. Hope your ones will also be in normal range 🤞

in reply toRanchu90

That is interesting isnt it! Xx

That is I thought that you should know, maybe is just a standard procedure for all endocrinologist that are dealing with infertility cases 🤷‍♀️
