Hi I am sorry to hear about your failures and know what that feels like. Did you have follow up appointments post result to discuss what may have occurred to cause the failures with your clinic as you mention you feel like you have then done something… there may be other tests that are more relevant.
My consultant recommended this to me after my first failed transfer, the results just showed slightly lower lactobacillus and transfer window was the norm. I still failed on the second despite taking the probiotics and adhering to transfer window. I was successful on the third, was this attributed to the test, hard to say for sure.
When I was contemplating whether to do it, I asked myself if my transfer failed would I regret that I had not done it… which is why I ended up doing it in the end as all my other markers were normal.
Saying that I have read mixed outcomes on here. I would also recommend looking at the HFEA website for its rating to aid your decision making. Hope some of this helps in some way, good luck x
Thank you for your reply. I can’t do the transfer unless I know I have checked everything . My clinic say it’s a case of my failures weren’t the right embryo . Everything looks good to them x
I haven't had the tests and for the EMMA and ALICE I don't know.
I asked about the ERA because I never had implantation. I was told that there's no evidence it helps. The HFEA has it red in the traffic light classification system of add-on treatments, meaning no quality research to confirm benefits and possible negative effect . Similar the guidelines from ESHRE the European regulatory body for IVF clinics do not recommend it. On the other hand several women in this forum claim to have been helped by the ERA. Despite this I decided to listen to the science instead of some positive individual experiences shared online and I did not do it in the end.
Hi, I did all three tests, and I came up with significantly lower lactobacillus. I was put on strong antibiotics for a week and told to take pro-biotics. I am now waiting to retest again to ensure my levels have increased, so I don’t have any results yet as to whether it has worked or not. There are studies showing that if you have less than 80-90% lactobacillus there’s a higher chance of implantation failure and miscarriages.
At this point, I’m not taking unexplained infertility as an answer and I really hope this is the reason.
thank you for your message , I have had burning and discomfort down there for months I put it down to hormones - negative to and urine infection . I tested positive for hpv in October . I just want to know if everything is as it should be . Xx
Hi there, I had all of the tests you mentioned after 2 failed FETs. I paid privately to see a highly renowned professor Charles Kingsland for an hours consultation and he recommended them. The ERA showed a slight adjustment was needed, (I took progesterone for longer before transfer if I remember rightly) ALICE was negative, and I took a pessary as a precaution for very slight bacteria presence found in EMMA test.
My next transfer was positive and I have always atributed it to these tweaks. It may have been that I felt reassured that I had done everything possible to prep for the FET that added to my positivity, and the successful pregnancy.
So from my perspective the tests helped me.
I dont believe the tests can do any harm, and if anything give you more insight. But as others have said theres no conclusive evidence to support their success, but I think individuals here will tell you that they found them helpful and worth a shot. Hope that helps.
The most effective part of this is finding out if you need antibiotics. I don't think there is too much proof about the other parts. My doctor just gave me 4 weeks of anti-biotics to be safe, but I'm not sure if most would be so helpful. There might be cheaper tests for infection, but they vary in efficacy. Xx
