Hysteroscopy Yesterday - Dense Uterine Adhesions!

Before continuing/starting again with IVF, our clinic saw a darker area on the ultrasound and insisted I get a hysteroscopy to determine if there's a polyp and to have it removed if so. I had the hysteroscopy yesterday and I was excited it would mean we could start IVF again. So, no polyp was found (which is absolutely fine), but the doctor said the right ostium (entrance to the tube?) "was not clearly seen, raising suspicions of dense uterine adhesions" which doesn't sound good. I have forwarded his report to our fertility clinic, but I'm unsure if this means we will be able to start with IVF or not. Does anyone have any experience of this? I signed up for the 2 year unlimited deal with Access Fertility in November, so I am worried about time ticking along, as well as the overwhelming desire to be pregnant!

Hi ttcemmie. So sorry to hear this. I would think they will need to remove the adhesions before commencing IVF, as they will just get in the way of the procedure. Hopefully, once done, that should be it. Good luck. Diane

Thanks Diane. The doctor is not sure if there's adhesions (even though he did a hysteroscopy!) - do you think I'll still need to get them removed/what is the usual next step if they can't be confirmed by a hysteroscopy?!

Hi. They may need to do a D & C to ensure you have a good lining. That would be done under a general anaesthetic if decided. I assume they will scan you first to be sure. Diane

I had very thick uterine scarring (not adhesions) found on hysteroscopy but I was under GA with the pupose of treating whatever was found (has this done in Athens) so the consultant cut away the scarring and given estrogen therapy to prevent more scarring, he also made sure the tubes were clear (I got a DVD of mine). He said that it could cause problems for the embryo to implant and blood flow in the uterus however it may depend on the degree of scarring whether it needs treated or not.xx

Thanks, Cinderella. I think my main concern is that it was only "suspicions" of adhesions found during the hysteroscopy and he wasn't able to remove them during the hysteroscopy, so if my clinic says they need to be removed first then I don't know how to get that done. Although, obviously I want best environment possible for implantation.

Nope, it was a sedation (not a general anaesthetic, but you are knocked out and come round a lot quicker than general - I'm only mentioning all this because I'd never heard of a sedation before our fertility journey.)

Hmmmmm I wondered if they maybe didnt treat as you were awake. Maybe you were on an investigation list as opposed to a treatment last?! Im not entirely sure. I was only knocked out based on the fact they knew they were going to do some cutting to aid implantation if nothing else. Good luck, hope you get some answers soon.xx

So glad you had sedation may I ask if you went private? Don't be fooled most women that have this with out anything find it allful some find it ok but it's not most like they say
