just had egg collection of cycle 2 and had 23 eggs collected vs 11 on cycle 2.
Don’t know how to feel about so many and potentially having to freeze them all?
Anyone else had this situation and advice?

That's a great number! Why would you have to freeze them? Are you doing IVF?
Consultant has advised freezing if good quality and only doing fresh if poor/average quality due to over stimulation. She said about risk of meds and hormones for implantation. We will see what embryologists advise also. We’re doing ICSI
So they will fertilise the eggs and create embryos anyway?
Yes, as you had so many egg collected it's possible that you will get OHSS and the hormone levels might be too high. They should check your bloods to let you know.
I have had this before and it's honestly best to recover before going ahead with a transfer - you want your body to be in the best condition possible!
Hey firstly I hope you're feeling okay and taking care of yourself. While 23 is a lot of eggs, remember that not all of those will fertilise and make embryos. So in theory having 23 eggs means you have a good chance of getting a few good ones for the freezer. Good luck and keep drinking lots of water.
thanks for your message. Sore but doing ok! We only got 1 embryo last time so I’m hoping percentage wise it works out for us..
Hi. You wouldn’t need to freeze them all if you’re doing IVF/ICSI rather than an egg freezing cycle? As others have said above, hopefully you’ll get a good number of blastocysts over the next few days - and then your clinic can advise on whether you should go for a fresh transfer - or a FET at a later date. Wishing you the very best of luck ⭐️💫
Hi! I had 24 eggs collected from 32 follicles. Like in your case, they were fertilised via ICSI and my clinic strongly recommended freezing all resulting embryos because of the risk of OHSS. I really wanted a fresh transfer and pushed for it but sure enough, on day 5 after egg collection I did develop OHSS, which they could see on the scan before the transfer. We decided not to go ahead with it because if successful, it makes it very likely that the doubling HCG will escalate the OHSS to moderate to severe one. We froze all the embies and I have a baby girl from our second FET. The OHSS went away after my period came. It was fairly unpleasant and my clinic advised protein rich diet to help absorb the liquid that was building up. I had 3 protein yoghurts or shakes a day. Very best of luck! I hope you get lots of embies and no OHSS
Yes, I’ve 100% come to terms with my body needs to be the best state it can be to house an embryo. Aw congrats! How many embryos did you get to freeze? Perfect, thanks for the advice. Haha me too!
hope you’re feeling okay! 🥰
We are waiting for my period to start the meds for egg collection #2, we got 15 eggs on cycle one in November and ended up with 6 embryos - obviously hasn’t ended up positively so this gives me hope!
x
Thankyou! Hopefully I’m getting there and nothing develops 🙏. Just day by day now to see what happens.
Aw, have you had 6 transfers?
Yes definitely stay positive. I only got 1 embryo last time so this has to be a positive step. Hopefully get more this time even if they have to be frozen for a later date. Good luck
In my first try I had 25. I had to freeze them all to Avoid OHSS. You will only have to wait like two weeks for a transference, once your body resets. In fact for women that produce many eggs, freezing also gives a better chance of everything working. In my second try I got 40 eggs. I froze them all for later use. It has taken me 2 months to feel normal because I got very stimulated. A pregnancy now would have been dangerous. I have seen in person that some people get so disappointed thay actually they fight the doctor over this. But I see it as a good signal of them looking after you.
Oh wow, big numbers! They’ve initially said 1 or 2 cycles to wait but let’s see. I’ve come to terms with the freezing and just think it gives the embryo the best chance in the best conditions so I agree
Wow that's a great improvement! What did you do differently please?
I wanted to get to the bottom of why round 1 didn’t work.. so did blood tests etc. my thyroxine was 5.38 and supposed to be below 2.5 so I privately went on levothyroxine to bring this down.
I’ve done Accupuncture this time too. More supplements: folate, omega 3, nac, coq10. I cut out alcohol and caffeine.
That's great, thank you. I'm really pleased it improved things off you. I hope you get you baby soon!
My clinic’s policy is for a delayed transfer of over 20 eggs collected due to OHSS risk. So all embryos were cultured to day 5 and then the ones which made it and good enough quality would be frozen. So effectively no different to a fresh transfer in terms of final embryos available, just obviously not an immediate transfer.
Hi, I’m case you are interested, this is what I got for a similar number of eggs but I’m also orobably older than you’
for my first round, I had 22 eggs, 10 were good enough to be fertilised, 6 made it to day 3, 3 made it to day 5. All were frozen. I had 1 FET and it was successful.
On my sending round, I had 23 eggs, 12 were fertilised, 7 made it to day 6. I had 1 fresh transfer and remaining were PGTA tested and only 1 was normal. The fresh one didn’t work plus I was in a lot of pain.
Hope you have a good number of embryos. Great number of eggs so you have a good chance. Hope you have a good recovery too x
Thanks for your reply. Thankyou very much. Yes, I’m hoping to get some good quality embryos but let’s see day to day how everything develops
we had 24 follicles, 16 collected, 9 mature and only 3 fertilised. I had babies from with both my frozen cycles so freezing for me doesn’t seem to be a bad thing. What’s your concerns?
Oh wow that’s great to hear your success story! I’ve come to terms with it now and believe it’s the best way now! Just praying for some healthy good embryos
Hi there, I had a similar number of eggs as you in my second ivf cycle. I have pcos and my clinic prescribed fyramadel injections for 5 days to calm things down. I didn't get ohss either time as a result. Drink plenty of water. Hope you get lots of embryos x
I had 24 eggs collected in January- 14 fertilised and made it to day 3 but only 1 embryo made it to day 5 and was frozen (I had mild OHSS and I definitely didn’t feel well enough for a fresh transfer). I was shocked and devastated that only 1 embryo made it and none of the doctors had any explanation as to why. But I had FET a couple of months later with the one embryo and am currently 10 weeks pregnant! I think be pleased they’ve collected so many eggs and just wait and see what happens without too many expectations - hopefully you’ll get a good few to freeze, fingers crossed for you.
Oh wow amazing. Congratulations! That’s always been the common theme ‘it only takes one’. We only had one last time for fresh transfer and didn’t work. So I’m hoping this time we get more than 1 embryo to freeze and it works!
Good luck - I think giving your body time to rest and having frozen transfer is a good option. Hope you get at least one and hopefully lots more! I also had acupuncture on the day pre and post transfer, I really felt the benefit in particular from the post transfer acupuncture, I think it was worth it.
hi hun. This happened to me. I had 26 eggs which is a large amount. They cancelled my fresh transfer due to high risk of developing OHSS. They didn’t say at the time, but I think I already had mild OHSS, because my stomach was so swollen and I felt nauseous. At the time I was so upset the fresh transfer was cancelled, but I waited and did a frozen transfer with my one and only embryo that made it to day 5 blastocyst. I’m currently almost 8 weeks pregnant.
If I had gone ahead and had a fresh embryo transfer I doubt the outcome would have been the same, and if I had become pregnant I probably would have ended up very poorly.
I think if your consultant advises to freeze all, then you should follow their advice.
I hope this helps. Sending you lots of luck xx
