hi! I had a fibroid removed under GA. Have you spoken to the doctors about it? I found it quite smooth and totally painless but I was out completely. I also did it before my FET then waited a couple of months before transferring the embryo x

Hi, I had two hysteroscopies, with anaesthetic. I was quite ok afterwards. In the first one they removed a polyp. Very quick recovery and no complications. Wishing you well 😊

I had one after miscarrying under local about 18 months ago and it was fine. It wasn’t fun but was painless and the recovery was quick. I was out of the hospital by lunch time too (if I remember I was sat about a fair while so would take a book). I was given gas and air for pain which was fine (I’m a big wimp).

We did a fresh cycle about 8 weeks after (was asked to wait one full cycle before starting ).

Best of luck!

Hi, I just had a hysteroscopy to remove a polyp and biopsy last Wednesday. The consultant anaesthetist recommended sedation instead of GA saying sedation is better for my body and I won’t be able to tell the difference I was knocked out instantly. Fairly quick procedure but I did have some bleeding afterwards for 3 days which is supposed to be normal.

I have had polyps removed with and without a local anaesthetic! It is fairly quick and a little uncomfortable. I went home and curled up with a hot water bottle and took some ibuprofen. Are you concerned about a particular part of the procedure?

Thank you! I was just concerned with having local and wondering the pain I’d be in, I’d rather be awake but was panicking about how it would feel.

I’ve had one removed wide awake with no drugs and managed it! It was a bit painful without drugs but you’ll be fine with a local and like I said it will cause a little discomfort. Just come home and rest, get a hot water bottle and take ibuprofen for pain and infection management. Good luck x

Hi ivf2023, I had my hysteroscopy last month. I had local anaesthetic in the end - after this was administered the procedure was absolutely fine. It’s two injections to the cervix but not painful (might a sting a bit but not painful). You will still feel the polyp removal somewhat but it won’t be too painful. Good luck and wishing you all the best!

I had a hysteroscopy and had it under heavy sedation (same as egg collection) it went smoothly and I didn’t feel a thing, recovery wasn’t sore either.

Good luck!

I’ve had two done in the last 5-6 years to remove polyps, both under general anaesthetic. For the first one they attempted to do it without any sort of anaesthetic but I couldn’t take the pain and they recommended me for GA. It depends on their size and your personal pain threshold level. Apparently many people do it without, but even better that you’ll have local! It’s a bit reassuring to read all of these responses myself and to see how common these things are, as I don’t know anyone else who’s had uterine polyps removed.

Hi, I have had a polyp removed before starting IVF without general anaesthetic and it was the most painful procedure I have gone through, plus this made my periods a lot heavier now. I didn’t know that general anaesthetic was an option then, my doctor told me to take just ibuprofen an hour before procedure and I will only feel some like period cramps… it’s not like that at all.

I have had 3 hysteroscopies for polyps.1st one was with general anaesthetic. With a huge private health provider in the UK. The procedure wasn't completed and I was very frustrated. I later had a local anaesthetic hysteroscopy with nhs and it was straight forward. It was painful and they tell you to take pain relief before hand.

My 3rd one was for polyps that reappeared and was under general anaesthetic with my fertility clinic abroad. I didn't have any pain afterwards, just bit of spotting.

thank you everyone! I’ve just received my appointment letter for late December so hoping it goes well and I’m able to start IVF shortly after 🤞🏽
