Hi all, I have a small polyp and was waiting for a hysteroscopy prior to lockdown. I'm still on the waiting list as my NHS clinic still hasn't restarted hysteroscopies yet. I was told I could be waiting months for a hysteroscopy and age would be the biggest factor for my IVF cycle not working (which it hasn't so far). Is there anybody else waiting or has had a hysteroscopy on the NHS post lockdown? Apparently working out social distancing is harder...
Also, how long do you have to wait after a hysteroscopy for a transfer/ collection?
Thanks

I’m in the same boat... I was just about to start my 4 ivf cycle got all prepared went for my first scan and they found a large polyp. Was devastated it’s one thing after another with me. My clinic said they can do it within weeks costing £1800 or refer me to nhs. Ive had 3 fresh cycles and 2 frozen Which has cost me a small fortune of £30k already. We’re literally on credit cards now for our last attempt so finding the extra money is not possible. My doctors has referred me giving no time scale due to Covid 19! I have just turned 39 too so I’m more worried about time then money. This journey is torture. And expensive! Fingers crossed the wait is quicker then we fear....🤞🏻
Hysteroscopies do seem to cost a lot for what they are, although your quote is cheaper than what I've seen privately (I've seen ~£3.5-5k). I'm in a clinic that offers both NHS & private treatment, so would expect that if the issue is arranging social distancing for the procedure - this issue would apply equally to private and NHS funded treatment - although I know in practice, private should get you there faster. I'm not sure what the hold up is as hyteroscopies shouldn't involve extra risks (no spore production from procedure etc.) Frustrating thing is that there is no idea when hysteroscopies can start again - latest I was told was that could be many months. Got a followup appointment on Friday so will check then. So sorry to hear your costs so far - that seems a huge amount compared to prices for 2 or 3 cycle plans. All the best of luck
Hi Ruthie - Did you manage to get your hysteroscopy yet? Still not started at my NHS clinic, although they have done a couple of urgent cases as a test of social distancing measures apparently. Wait will be at least 6-8 weeks I'm told
Hi.. I’ve had a bit of luck (which makes a change) my doctor referred me for nhs and I got a letter within a week asking to ring and make appointment for my hysteroscopy. I called and they had a cancellation for 7th August (Friday). They said as long as the polyp isn’t too big they will be able to remove it on the day,if not I’ll have to wait for further appointment. Fingers crossed they will manage to remove it first go 🤞🏻
Grateful at how quick I got the appointment as I was looking into getting a loan to pay privately. This journey has its ups and downs for sure!
Which part of the country are you? Might make the difference. I’m in Hertfordshire (London).
Wow, fantastic news for you - that is so quick I'm in Leeds - been waiting since January. I don't understand what the hold up is as hysteroscopies shouldn't be aerosol producing, so shouldn't be any more risk than any other IVF procedure..
hi, have you heard from Leeds about this yet? I am in Leeds too and have been waiting since March (similar situation to you where I went for baseline before IVF and they found a polyp). I called them this week and was told they have restarted them now, following a trial restart last week. However, they aren't doing them as often as they were before covid so couldn't estimate when I'd get an appointment.
Hopefully yours will happen soon if it hasn't already, I agree it has been frustrating but a relief to know they have been able to restart.
Hi Orangeflowers, I was just about to have a hysteroscopy to remove a polyp just before lockdown happened. We waited a couple of months and when things started to reopen in the private sector I booked in a new clinic to have it removed. I started stims 10 days after.
It's not cheap but absolutely worth every penny to just be able to get on with it! xx
